On the possibility of staying with GMA-7, Ogie Alcasid says, "Of course. Of course there’s that possibility. And they have the first option. Sila naman ang… ayoko nang puntahan pa yung detalye ng kontrata but that’s how it goes. But in a few… siguro in a few weeks may linaw na siguro yun. Or maybe in a few days... I don’t know yet."

Ogie Alcasid will be staging his biggest concert yet, in celebration of his silver anniversary as a singer-songwriter, on August 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The concert, titled Ogie Alcasid… I Write The Songs, will feature 25 hits and more than 25 guests—and will be for the benefit of World Vision.

“Yes, this is the biggest in terms of budget, in terms of scope, in terms of [venue],” affirms the songwriter during his presscon earlier today, July 17, at C3 Events Place in Greenhills, San Juan City.

Ogie’s guests include his wife Regine Velasquez and close friends Michael V. and Janno Gibbs.

Veteran singers Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kuh Ledesma, Pops Fernandez, Jaya, Rico J. Puno, Rachel Alejandro, and Randy Santiago will also be present; as well as composers Ryan Cayabyab and Noel Cabangon.

About his contemporaries—like Jamie Rivera, Dingdong Avanzado, and Manilyn Reynes—Ogie explains: “Kasi hindi ko pa nagagawa sa concert ko yung kantahin namin yung mga hits namin nung araw.

“Hindi ko pa nagagawa yun, e. Like si Dingdong, kakantahin niya yung ‘Basta’t Kasama Kita.’

“And then si Jamie, kakantahin niya… ano ba yung kakantahin niya… yung ‘Pangarap ka na lang ba…’

"Si Manilyn, of course, kakantahin namin yung ‘Pangako.’"

Kapuso stars joining him at the concert are Dennis Trillo, Tom Rodriguez, Solenn Heussaff, Lovi Poe, and Isabelle Daza; and singers Kyla, Julie Anne San Jose, and La Diva.

Even Kapamilya stars Anne Curtis and Daniel Padilla; and popular performers Ebe Dancel, Gloc-9, and Abra will also perform alongside Ogie.

The singer-songwriter further elucidates, “Eto kasing concert na ito, lahat dito, puro kanta ko lang kakantahin ko—xcept for ‘Sirena.’

“So we’re featuring twenty-five songs that I have written.

"And etong mga ‘to—from Abra to Zsa Zsa Padilla—lahat po ’yan makaka-number ko.

“Siyempre, meron din naman akong mga solo, di ba?

"So, like si Anne Curtis, dito siya magseseryoso. Kasi naririnig ko kinakanta pala niya yung ‘Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw,’ di ba?

“So, dapat marinig natin ang isang seryosong ballad style na pagkakanta ni… walang birit, di ba, yung maganda lang na kanta.

“And then si Zsa Zsa, obviously, lagi niyang kinakanta yung ’Sa Kanya,’ e. I wanted her to sing that with me.

"Basta lahat sila, they’ll be singing my songs.”

Will the concert also have touches of comedy?

“Siyempre! Kaya nandiyan din si Bitoy [Michael V], di ba, si Janno.

“Hindi puwedeng mawala yung comedy dahil sa twenty-five years ko, ang laking bahagi ng comedy sa career ko.”

UNDER NEGOTIATION. Meanwhile, Ogie denied talks that he will be replacing Willie Revillame’s noontime show on TV5.

“Hindi po, hindi po totoo yun.”

Though Ogie still refuses to confirm whether or not he is transferring networks—from GMA-7 to TV5—he says that he is negotiating a contract with all interested parties.

“As we speak, [there is negotiation] sa lahat ng gustong makipag-usap sa ’kin.”

Pressed to reveal if he was merely obscuring any agreement made, he clarifies, “Hindi, eto na lang—wala pa akong pinipirmahan na kahit ano na kontrata sa kahit anong network.

“Kung ano man ang ibig sabihin nun, whether I closed a deal or not, wala pa.”

Is there a possibility that he will be staying with GMA-7?

Ogie replies, “Of course. Of course there’s that possibility—and they have the first option.

“Sila naman ang…ayoko nang puntahan pa yung detalye ng kontrata but that’s how it goes.

“But in a few… siguro in a few weeks, may linaw na siguro yun.

"Or maybe in a few days... I don’t know yet.”

Since one of his concert’s sponsors is PLDT, the question of how close Ogie is to its chairman, Manny V. Pangilinan, came up.

MVP is also the chairman of TV5.

“Very close. You know, I’ve known him for many, many years,” he answered candidly.

The last time they saw each other, Ogie relates, was at the businessman’s birthday party last July 14.

Did they talk?

“Meron naman. Sabi niya, kung kakanta ba siya sa concert ko!” he joked.

But regarding a contract with TV5, Ogie insists that it’s his manager Leo Dominguez who does the negotiations.

Ogie also clarifies that his and Regine’s absence from Sunday All Stars last July 14 are separate incidents.

“I cannot answer for Regine, no, ’cause she’s not here. She has to answer for herself.

"Sa totoo lang, hindi ko nga alam kung bakit absent yun... I think nagpahinga.

“Magkaiba kami ng dahilan. Walang koneksiyon yung…

"Because my contract ended June 30, so that was a Sunday. Yun yung last ko.

“E, alangan namang magtrabaho ako nang wala akong kontrata? I don’t think that’s right.

"So until I’m able to fix any contract for that matter, then I have to not work, di ba?”
