Victor Basa shifts from gay role in My Husband’s Lover to playing a priest in San Pedro Calungsod

Sabi niya, “I’m going to have to depend sa viewers talaga na they will be able to differentiate the two characters.”

“I’m a Spanish priest which is kind of hard, kasi kailangan kong magsalita ng Español.

“Hindi ito yung tipong movie na kapag after ng line mong Español, biglang mag-i-English or magta-Tagalog na, kasi kunwari naintindihan na ng viewers, di ba?

“So ayun, I’m even talking to the language specialist to make sure na yung delivery namin ng lines, e, totoo talaga at hindi katawa-tawa.

Sasabihin, mali-mali.”

SECOND TIME.

I spent about a year and a half playing a priest sa May Bukas Pa [ABS-CBN primetime soap].

“It’s a role na very, very close to my heart and it’s very close to my real character.”

Bakit niya nasabing very close to his heart and his character?

Esplika niya, “Number one, I’m God-fearing.

“Okay, hindi ko ipa-flatter ang sarili ko, it’s very close to what I aim to be—to be a devout Catholic and all that.”

Reaksiyon dito ni Victor, “Well, I respect the decision that Rocco made, kasi siyempre it’s Cosmo, that’s a very good opportunity.

“But iyon nga, ano siya talaga, very dedicated siya sa role niya.

CONFLICT.

“Hindi sila malilito na, ‘Ano ba, are you a priest ba or are you si David from My Husband’s Lover?’

“Well, mag-aano ako, I’m going to have to depend sa viewers talaga na they will be able to differentiate the two characters.

“But, of course, nasa responsibility ko rin iyon na i-deliver ko in a different way.

“As for the issue, wala naman akong nakikitang issue or conflict, kasi kumbaga, yung sa My Husband’s Lover is a love story.

“Na it just so happen na yung nagmamahalan ay dalawang lalaki.”

“Kasi, baka it might take away from... iyon nga, yung sa movie, baka malito yung mga viewers.

“Parang, ‘E, nakita ko ‘yan sa EDSA na [naka-brief]!’

“So wala pa naman, wala pa naman, we’ll cross the bridge when we get there,” sabi ng hunky actor.

MORE CHARACTERS. Still on My Husband’s Lover, may mga bagong pasok na character sa show—sina Keempee de Leon (bilang Zandro) at Rodjun Cruz (bilang Martin).

Tugon niya, “I’m happy that other new characters came in, kasi you can see the different perspectives ng iba’t ibang klase ng bakla.

“And siyempre, I trust our writer, si Miss Suzette Doctolero na the storyline needs these characters.

“And if you think of the characters, may mga needs sila, e.

“Like, even if naging para akong sounding board, tsaka ano ako, adviser lagi, siyempre may feelings din ako.

“And, di ba noon, na-friend zone ako ni Vincent [Tom Rodriguez]?

“Pero yung character ko as David is a living and breathing character, kaya siya nagka-lovelife din, kaya nagka-lovelife din ako sa My Husband’s Lover.”

RISKY UNDERTAKING.

Sagot niya, “It was unexpected, so unexpected!

"I mean, kasi who would think na parang… we weren’t sure about the concept, it was risky.

“Kaya actually, a few other actors, they turned this down, other actors they turned down the project.

“Then sabi ko, it’s risky, yet if you want to achieve more, you have to risk a little bit.

“And I liked it, kasi it’s something new, something na hindi pa nakikita.

“And kumbaga, something na hindi mo pa nagagampanan.

“Kaya as of now, we’re just very, very thankful and we hope na the viewership will stick around to watch the lives of the other characters unfold.

“Kasi napakaganda and we’re so attached na to the characters.

“Actually, ako nga, tuwing nanonood ako, parang naaano nga ako, parang napapa-‘Uy, huwag!’

“Even if you know the script naman na, na-shoot mo na, nagawa mo na, naaano ka pa rin, parang, ‘Uy, bitin!’

“Alam mo yun? Kasi ang ganda ng istorya, ang ganda.”
