“Overwhelming” ang naramdaman ni Jasmine Curtis Smith nang tanghalin siyang Best Supporting Actress para sa pelikulang Transit sa nakaraang 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
Saad pa niya, “In a good way. Kasi I came there [awards night] knowing I was gonna present an award, not knowing na at the same time mananalo ako.
“And when I was there to receive the award, and say many thank yous, I still couldn’t process it, I was still kind of searching for the right words.
“So ayun, very overwhelmed throughout the entire night and to win Best Film also.
“That just brought the entire thing and really made the entire night, Transit night for us.”
Bukod sa Best Supporting Actress at Best Film (New Breed Category), walo pang awards ang napanalunan ng Transit: Best Actress for Irma Adlawan, NETPAC Award, Special Jury Best Acting Ensemble, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Music Score, Audience Choice, at Best Director for Hannah Espia.
Sabi niya, “You know, I guess self-criticism lang... na I just thought, like I was inconsistent enough in the movie when I was watching it, but that’s just self-judgment.”
Bakit niya nasabing inconsistent siya?
“I guess I just lack a bit of trust in myself sometimes, when it comes to how I deliver lines.
“Siyempre, because you know, baguhan, and so I’m not confident that I’m as great as everyone else na kasama ko sa industry.
“But siyempre, nakipagsabayan ako and with the best people in the industry and siguro, hawaan na lang yung skills, di ba?
“So nahawa ako with how they react to certain things in the film and I guess I adapted some of their acting skills.”
Kay Irma Adlawan ay “nahawa” raw siya.
Paliwanag ni Jasmine, “Reaction... like you really have to react whether or not you have lines.
“You need to learn how to react kahit na lilingon ka lang, or konting body movements lang.”
“Yeah, and you know, that’s something that you don’t always learn in a mainstream work because you get told, ‘Ito ang gawin mo. Pag sinabi niya ito, ganito, yung kilos mo.’
“Whereas in the indie, you really do it all yourself, na you listen.
“I was learning as I went along, and so I guess, that’s why from day one, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, paano ko ito gagawin?’
“I was so nervous in processing everything na this is such like a fragile storyline, you know.
“You do something wrong, it can be interpreted the wrong way and people can get hurt by how you interpreted the story.
“Or, you know, I don’t wanna offend, like siyempre, a writer or a director by not fulfilling the role enough.”
NO LABEL.
“We’re happy!” bulalas niya.
Ilang months na silang happy?
“Basta we’re happy!” at tumawa si Jasmine.
Sagot ng dalaga, “It’s, you know, what people see, that’s what it is.
“I don’t think, you know, in terms of that kind of stuff, it’s necessary to provide a label or even like reveal so much about a person’s personal life.
“It’s nicer to, like, you know, keep your private life to yourself.
“And you know, with projects like this [Transit], it’s really what people should be talking about.”
NETWORK TRANSFERS.
Sagot niya, “I’m very happy that he’s on board.
“You know, that means he’s gonna bring a lot of concepts and ideas to provide more musical influences in the network.
“And having worked with him sa PhilPop, nag-enjoy ako in his company and he seems like a really genuine person.
“And you know, he’s like a mentor, like throughout the night, mine-mentor niya ako on how to host kasi he knew how nervous I was.
“I think he’ll be very, very influential and good for the network, I’m excited to see what happens.”
“I think, you know, people have their seasons in where they are—season in life, in the network, in the industry.
“I guess he just felt like, you know, he’s had his time in the network and maybe there’s something else elsewhere.
“But it’s really just a subjective thing, I’m not sure what happened but I’m happy for him.
“You know, it seems like he’s enjoying the other world!
“So good for him that he’s enjoying.”
CAREER INVESTMENT.
“So, I’m just happy,” sambit niya.
“It depends on her, what she thinks will be best for my career.”
Pero ano ang mararamdaman niya?
“I think I would be shocked, because of how long I’ve been with... I mean, three years is a long time also and that’s where I started.
“But at the same time, it’s really gonna depend on where my career will take me and kung saan talaga makakabuti yung pag-grow ng career ko.
“But you know, I see TV5’s putting a lot of investment in me and I would definitely be happy to stay with TV5 and grow more as an artist.
“Especially now, you know, they see a lot of potential, they’ve seen a lot of potential in me.
“Iyon, from before pa, ang dami na nilang special considerations na ibinigay sa akin.
“So I would love to stay in TV5.”
