Willie Revillame, Randy Santiago, and John Estrada—hosts of the defunct MTB on ABS-CBN—reunited and bantered merrily as in the good old days for the love of Ogie Alcasid.
The Songwriter celebrated his 46th birthday earlier, August 27, at the Wil’s Events Place.
Venue owner Willie related, "Dapat magpa-party si Ogie tonight. Nung nagkaroon ng Maring, [sabi niya], ’Pare, okay lang ba na yung birthday, fundraising na lang sa baha?’"
In jest, the Wowowillie host continued, "Natakot ako. Fundraising na naman."
The birthday boy’s request was granted, and most of his guests gave cash and in-kind donations to Philippine Red Cross.
But his major wish was, for his family to be always happy together.
PAPA GERRY’S HEALTH CONDITION. In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and 24 Oras, Ogie specifically mentioned, "Siyempre for the family, lalo na kay Papa Gerry, yun lang."
It echoed one of the recent posts of Regine Velasquez on Instagram: "Prayers for Mang Gerry."
GMA-7’s Nelson Canlas inquired, "Kumusta po ba siya?"
The musician-host-comedian replied, "Uhm, he’s being observed at the moment, so maghihintay tayo ng dalawang araw malalaman natin, yung procedure na nangyari sa kanya, e, nag-work."
"That’s why we’ve been asking for prayers, well, the family has been asking for prayers. So the more people that will pray for him..."
Ogie didn’t get to finish his sentence, and took the chance instead to thank the "prayer warriors."
"Ang dami, so nagpapasalamat kami. On behalf of the entire family of my wife, thank you, thank you very much."
He was vague about the illness of Mang Gerry.
"Regine would be in better position to say what the procedure was. I might... Baka magkamali ako.
"So, it wasn’t an operation. It was just something that had to be done doon sa loob ni Papa Gerry."
While talking, Ogie pointed to his chest area.
"SOURCE OF JOY." The interview was interrupted by his almost-two-year-old son.
Smiling, the happy daddy remarked, "Kita mo naman, party boy, di ba. Parang wala lang...
"He’s ano, he’s very sweet, lalo na sa mga panahong ito na siyempre nag-aalala kami kay Papa."
Nate’s antics, he said, help make the situation lighter.
"Pag siya na yung nagpatawa, nagpapa-cute, medyo nawawala na yung worry ng Nanay niya, so source of joy talaga ’to si booboo bear."
TV5 SHOWS. Changing the topic to his being a Kapatid star, the celebrator said he’s excited.
"Well, I’ll be starting with three shows right away."
Next month, The Mega and the Songwriter, his first TV project with Sharon Cuneta, and Tropa Mo ’Ko Unli, his show with Gelli de Belen, will be launched.
Come October, he will have The Gift.
We told him about the Megastar’s "I am blessed, privileged" tweet upon learning about her show with Ogie.
To this, he said, "Baka hindi, sa akin yung honor. Siyempre si Megastar yun ano...
"Idol naman ng lahat si Sharon.
"Yung pastor nga namin ang pangarap lang niya maging driver ni Sharon. Totoo ’yan, ha. Sinabi ko nga kay Shawie yun, e, tapos tawa siya nang tawa.
"Uhm, Sharon Cuneta ’yan, e, so for me, to be with her is an honor."
The show’s format will emphasize their love for music.
Ogie described, "This is really an exciting show for us...
"At saka maganda dun sa gagawin namin, magkakantahan talaga kami all throughout. Just singing.
"So I’m excited about that. Medyo rare na kasi ngayon yung pure kantahan."
About his other role—head of music department— in Manny Pangilinan’s TV station, Ogie said he’ll learn the details after his trip to Australia.
"I’m leaving this Friday [August 30] for Sydney kasi birthday nung second daughter ko.
"So, after that, pagbalik ko, saka pa kami mag-uusap."
THE GUESTS. Back to the party, it was made livelier by the jammin’ session, featuring the country’s best singers.
Among those who sang: Dulce, Jaya, Noel Cabangon, Randy Santiago, Dingdong Avanzado, Bayang Barrios, Cookie Chua, Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos, Chad Borja, Q-York, Abra, and even Richard Gomez.
And just before midnight, hosts Willie, John, and Randy led the singing of "Happy Birthday!"
Ogie’s well-wishers: Ben Chan, Wilma Galvante, Mitch Valdez, Bing Loyzaga, Priscilla Meirelles, Dennis Padilla, Luke Mejares, Epy Quizon, Jolina Magdangal, Iza Calzado with boyfriend Ben Wintle, Yasmien Kurdi with husband Rey Soldevilla Jr., Moymoy Palaboy’s Roadfill, and many more!
Regine Velasquez-Alcasid was there, of course, but she had to leave early.
