PEP EXCLUSIVE: Ellen Adarna admits she tried drugs in the past

Ellen Adarna admits that she experimented with drugs in the past: "I have no regrets at all. For anything, it was fun but that was it. It’s a phase."

Ellen Adarna is candid enough to admit that she drew upon her own experience to portray the role of a drug addict in her debut movie.

The 25-year-old actress is the lead star of Gil Portes’ Ang Tag-araw Ni Twinkle, a family drama about a young girl undergoing drug rehabilitation while reconnecting with her dying father (played by Arnold Reyes).

Ang Tag-araw Ni Twinkle is Direk Gil’s entry to the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival All Masters Edition. The family drama is one of the entries to be shown in SM Cinemas during the filmfest organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines that will take place from September 11-17, 2013.

Ellen was one of the celebrities who attended FDCP’s press conference held yesterday, August 29, at the IMAX lobby of SM North Edsa.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Ellen opened up about the time when she experimented with drugs and how she surpassed that phase in her life.

How would she describe her character Twinkle?

"She’s a rebel and she’s troubled."

How hard was it to portray a drug addict?

"How hard? It was easy!" exclaims Ellen.

Dis she shoot sexy scenes with Dominic Roco for this movie?

"Yeah, but not naman super sexy scenes. I had my panty and my bra and we had scenes in bed but that was as far as it goes."

Was it hard for her to shoot her bed scenes with her leading man?

"We were both drunk!" exclaimed the former FHM cover girl.

She said with a laugh: "We had to drink. I was like, ’I can’t do this! Inom!’ I think I finished two glasses of vodka."

What made her accept the lead role in Ang Tag-araw Ni Twinkle?

"Because it’s something different. I always wanted to play someone very similar to me."

How is she similar to Twinkle?

"I am Twinkle," declares Ellen.

Does this mean that she was also a drug user in the past?

"I would be lying if I said I didn’t experiment with things... growing up, I did, yeah."

Did she also enter into drug rehabiliation?

"I didn’t go through rehab. It did not come to that point."

Now that she has admitted to being a drug user in the past, isn’t she afraid how this would affect her career?

"People change. People change for the better and I am better," says Ellen.

The sexy star points out, "This film isn’t about drugs. It’s basically about family and forgiveness and home."

Was it difficult for her recalling that phase in her life when she was still experimenting?

"No, no. I have no regrets at all. For anything, it was fun but that was it. It’s a phase."

How did she overcome that phase?

"How did I change? Nakakasawa rin. And moving here...my family is based in Cebu.

"Cebu is my comfort zone where I can do anything.

"When I moved here alone, I had to take care of myself and I worked out, I lived healthy, I juice a lot... It was a complete lifestyle change."

Just like her movie character Twinkle, Ellen admits that she also has a rebellious streak.

"I always want it my way. I ran away from home three times. First, when I was 13 years old and next when I was around 15 and when I was 18."

What prompted her to turn her life around?

"I think I’m just growing up slowly. It takes time."

Has she gotten over her rebellious streak?

"I still go out. I drink. My life right now is balanced. It’s balanced now."

Is she open to doing more daring roles in the future?

"It depends on the story. If the story is nice and it requires to do something like that, I would.

"But not bold [movies]. I’m not going to show my boobs and my small ass. But I don’t know. It really depends on the story."
