Ogie Alcasid goes full steam ahead with TV5 projects; kicks off to a promising start with The Gift

Ogie Alcasid on finally buckling down to work with his new "family": “Okay naman. Nagsisimula na kaming magtrabaho. Noong isang araw nag-pictorial kami ni Sharon [Cuneta, for the show, The Mega and The Songwriter]. Tapos yung bagong gag show [Tropa Mo ’Ko with Gelli de Belen].

“It’s a beautiful story about this young boy with a special gift. He sees dead people and his mother is a former girlfriend of mine.

“Naiwan sa akin yung bata because of an accident. I was a part of that accident kaya lang nabuhay ako.

“The dead people ay makakausap nitong anak ko at dun na magpu-progress ang kuwento.”

Crossover ba ito mula sa pagiging isang komedyante to a more serious actor?

“So, this is not actually new to me.”

FULL STEAM AHEAD WITH TV5 PROJECTS.

Noong isang araw nag-pictorial kami ni Sharon [Cuneta, for the show, The Mega and The Songwriter].

“Tapos, yung bagong gag show [Tropa Mo ’Ko with Gelli de Belen].

“Ngayon, ready na talaga ako to concentrate on my work sa TV5.

“Marami naman akong kakilala even before pa sa TV5... the production staff and dito sa soap na mga ka-trabaho ko naman dati ang grupo nina [Direk] Mike Tuviera.

“I know him before and we are all very passionate about this project. So, the challenge in me is to deliver the same passion that they have.

“I think, it’s a blessing.”

“There’s a big part of me that belongs to GMA.

“But this is work. There are more considerations than that... like, there’s my family, di ba? Ako ay tatay lang.

“But over and over, the love I have for the station [GMA] that put me where I am now ay hindi mawawala. I will forever be grateful sa aking Kapuso family.”

RIGHT TIMING?

When is the right timing?’

“Kaya nga, kailangan nila ng tulong.

“It’s not hidden naman that the network is having a hard time—the ratings game, trying its identity, trying to find what it wants to do.

“So, I was asked by MVP [Manny Pangilinan] to help, not to troubleshoot, but do programs that the audience might like. We don’t know yet.

“Is it bad timing? I don’t know yet about that. I don’t think there’s such good or bad timing. The challenge is with us.

“Siyempre, muli kaming manliligaw. Kaya nga kami nakikiusap sa inyo [sa press people] at humingi ng tulong sa inyo to spread the word na meron kaming mga bagong programs.

“It’s a challenge but that’s life is all about—about challenging yourself especially for the network na it’s not doing very well.

“So, masarap yun.”

“I know, one of these days ay magkaka-work pa rin kami.

“That’s not... that’s not to... but I know, deep in my heart ay magkaka-work pa rin kami.

“It will happen... maybe in another show.

“Masyado kaming magkakabit, di ba? So, it will happen.”

“Yeah, of course... why not?” bulalas ni Ogie. “We work best together.

“Well, siyempre, if I could have Bubble Gang and work for TV5, why not, di ba? But it doesn’t work that way.

“If you sign for the network, you sign for the network. So, if we work together in the future, probably in another show. Hindi natin alam, e.”

Nagkasakit a few days back si Michael V. pati na ang father-in-law niyang si Mang Gerry.

Ano ang thoughts niya rito?

“I was worried sa kanilang dalawa,” medyo malungkot na kuwento niya.

“I had been praying for their fast recovery. Michael is okay now at ang father-in-law ko had survived a major operation.

“We really thank God about this and we give Him back the glory.

“Si Regine had been tweeting regarding dito and we’re glad na answered prayers talaga siya.

In God’s time siguro.

“But that would be nice. We’re trying. If it doesn’t come, okay. If it comes, salamat.

“Her pregnancy was not that easy. Alam naman natin ang pag-aalaga na ginawa natin sa kanya during her pregnancy kay Nate.

“Sa age niya, it was a bit risky but there’s nothing impossible naman with God, di ba?

“So, we will try.”
