After a sensational season in the UAAP, brothers Jeric and Jeron Teng have become sought-after figures among the local media, which is really a reflection of the public clamor for the boys.
Jeric led the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers through three knock-out games to make it to the UAAP Season 76 Finals.
Jeron was the main man for the De La Salle Green Archers, who got past the second round of eliminations and secured a finals berth.
But what really draws public attention to the sons of former pro ball player Alvin Teng is how they can be such fierce rivals on the court but very supportive brothers to each other off the court.
The Green Archers ended up winning the championship, with Jeron named as the Finals Most Valuable Player.
On the other hand, Jeric—who played his last year for the Growling Tigers—will be joining the PBA Draft of November 3.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had a fun chat with the Teng brothers last October 17, at Urbn Bar & Kitchen at The Fort in Bonifacio Global City.
The chat coincided with the formal launch of PEP’s sister site, SPIN.ph (Sports Interactive Network).
After the championship, the Teng brothers made guest appearances on several TV shows, including Unang Hirit, Umagang Kay Ganda, Tonight with Arnold Clavio, Bandila, Gandang Gabi Vice, and more.
Of the overwhelming attention, older brother Jeric says, “We just feel that we’re blessed talaga from getting all these interviews and all that. Siguro, our hard work paid off talaga.
“Kasi, I think people saw how badly we wanted that win. And yun lang, we’re just blessed talaga for getting all the attention.”
Younger brother Jeron adds, “We just do what we love to do, which is basketball. And it’s just nice that we get attention coming from the public.”
According to the brothers, their newfound popularity is totally unforeseen.
Jeric explains, “We didn’t expect it at all kasi we’re just focused on winning the championship.
“After nung finals, dun na sila dumadating, the interviews.
"We’re just blessed and we’re happy, that’s why we try to accommodate everyone.”
Jeron stresses, “We just love basketball. Even without the fame, we really love basketball.”
In the interview, the Teng brothers also revealed their celebrity crushes, how they are off the court, what their pre-game rituals are, and more.
