LUCY’S CRY FOR HELP.
The damage to property is catastrophic. So many are homeless already, and another problem is that in 36 hours another storm is reportedly coming.
“We need to keep the people dry and warm, thus the need for blankets and tents. Medicines, too, please. Thank you. God is merciful and kind, always.”
“UPDATE: Ormoc, Palompon, Merida, Albuera are badly hit. So far, the greatest damage is to property.
“Reports of casualties are minimal but I do not want to speculate until reports are official.
“Generally, people are well and alive but traumatized and homeless. I suppose it is the same situation in Kananga, Isable, Matagob.
“Power is still out, signal is intermittent. Most structures are damaged and roofless if not totally wiped out. Highways are choked, there is still no water and electricity as of this moment.
“Relief operations are needed, clearing operations will be undertaken by DPWH, and after that will come the process of rebuilding homes and lives.
“I have asked Crame for PNP presence in Ormoc to take care of security and prevent and address looting.
“DSWD secretary Dinky Soliman, Sec. Butch Abad, and Sec. Babes Singson are aware of the gravity of the situation and have pledged support.
“I have the commitment of our good government and of The President through Kris Aquino that everything that needs to be done is being done. VP Binay has also called to pledge support to Leyte.
“At the moment, what we need to do is to stay calm, and do what we can to help rebuild all that has been lost.
“The government will help but on our part, we have to be proactive and help the government, too.
“Thus, we are consolidating donations for shipment to Ormoc and the rest of Leyte4 at the soonest possible time.
“As I mentioned earlier, immediately needed are drinking water, tents, blankets, non-perishable food items, rice, drinking water.
“I will post separately drop-off points and account numbers, for donations whether in cash or in kind.
“In the interest of transparency and accountability, all donations as well as the recipients of every single cent and item donated will be posted. God bless us all.
“I will post more updates as soon as they are available. I would like to thank LP Sec Gen Mel Sarmiento for being so accessible and helpful.
“He has been invaluable in linking me to key people during this most trying time.”
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY.
“A website is being set up where all donations in cash and kind will be posted.
“I will give the web address as soon as it is up and running. Recipients will also be posted in the website.
“I want you all to know where your donations are going --- down to the last cent, last blanket, last tent, last bottle of water. Thank you very much. God bless the Philippines."
INITIAL DONATIONS.
“Numerous pledges have poured in and first physical check donation is here. Thank you @krisaquino214! may your generosity be rewarded a millionfold.
“Btw, a website is being set up at this very moment for purposes of accountability and transparency. All donations, in cash and kind, will be posted in the website, and all recipients as well.
“Will announce web address as soon as it is up and running. God bless the Philippines”
Ipinost ni Lucy and screen capture ng text message nito na nagsabing, “Our truck is on the way. Shud be at your house in the next few minutes.”
Pagpapasalamat ni Lucy dito, “100 Coleman tents from Steve and Loli Sy of Focus Global. Thank you very much! God bless your kind hearts.”
