Rachel Alejandro talks about the legacy of OPM legends Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano

Rachel Alejandro ponders the secret behind the enduring careers of OPM greats Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano: “I think it’s really like, they love what they do.”

Pahayag ni Rachel sa sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) noong nakapanayam namin siya sa CIBO Gateway, Cubao, Quezon City, noong nakaraang Huwebes, May 8, para sa pocket presscon para sa kanyang series of shows, “I think it’s really like, they love what they do.”

ON MARTIN NIEVERA. Panimula niyang kuwento tungkol sa Concert King, “Alam mo, heto kasi... I had the pleasure of doing so many shows with Martin here and around the world.

“Yung ganun.

“He’s so generous. It’s all heart, e. Parang... heto pa, heto pa. Enjoy na enjoy siya sa ginagawa niya.

“And then, pag nag-sign ng autograph, dito mo talaga makikita ang totoong star.”

Dugtong pa niya, “Kahit buong coliseum ang magpapirma at hanggang dulung-dulong tao—pipirmahan niya ang autograph nun. Makikipag-pose pa siya with the same energy and the same sincerity with the first person on the line.

“’Yon ang makikita mo sa kanya. Mahal niya ang mga tao and he really loves to perform and make people happy.

“It’s all love.

“May star.

“May ganung artista, di ba?

“And of course, yung hard work din despite the fact na alam natin na diabetic siya, pero his energy is all over the place.

“So, I think they both have [staying power]... but I would like to think na I have Martin’s [qualities].”

CONCERT SERIES.

Aniya, “Ever since I started, people have noticed na I appreciate every little thing that comes my way, whether it’s a big or a small show.

“Yung performance ko, whether it’s in a casino or in a big venue, pareho.

“Like yung parang wala akong gana, hindi e, kasi your life is not their problem. They came to see you and that’s why I’m grateful that they came to see me.

“So it’s always like 100 percent or 200 percent performance.”

EVOLUTION.

“I believe na yung audience ko ngayon is the same audience who has been there for me, kaya nga I want to do a variety [of things].

“In my show, I’m doing a variety.

“It’s fresh pero hindi naman something na so alien na parang baka sabihin nila na, ’She’s trying to...’ you know.

“I think it’s ano naman... ’yon ang ano ng isang singer who has been in this business long enough.”

REMAKES OF HER HITS.

Mabilis na sagot ng singer-entrepreneur, “I think, it’s really, really good.

“It’s good for them to put their own version, their own flavor in the same manner na ako, nagkaroon din naman ako ng ilang revivals ng ilang artsits including Filipino artists.

“And I’d like to think na I made it my own... like yung ’Nakapagtataka’ ay ginawang parang rock, I think it’s really great.

“I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
