NCCA questions decision of Malacañang to exclude Nora Aunor as National Artist nominee

“She is a good actress. She is able to give meaning to being an artist,” says NCCA chairman Felipe de Leon defending Nora Aunor (in photo), who was excluded in the new list of National Artist nominees.

Sa isang text message na ipinadala niya sa talent manager at PEP blogger na si Noel Ferrer, sinabi ni Lumbera, "The Office of the President owes CCP [Cultural Center of the Philippines] and NCCA [National Commission for Culture and the Arts] an explanation for the insulting disregard of the choice of Nora Aunor for National Artist."

Kabilang dito sina Alice Reyes for dance, Francisco Coching (posthumous) for visual arts, Cirilo Bautista for literature, Francisco Feliciano and Ramon Santos for music and Jose Maria Zaragoza for architecture, design and allied arts.

"I ask fellow National Artists and other artists to protest this insult to the rigorous process of choosing National Artists," aniya.

Sabi niya, “I cannot understand, Malacañang has not yet given an explanation.

"This is a big loss to the film industry because it lost an opportunity to have another artistic role model."

Dagdag pa ni De Leon, “We would ask if there was a big reason for it to decline her nomination.

"If there is no big reason, then maybe we would try to ask Malacañang to reconsider."

Subalit ayon kay De Leon, "This issue is no longer important for us."

Paglalarawan pa niya, “She is a good actress. She is able to give meaning to being an artist.

"Her style is to be so absorbed in her work, and she shows off the real Filipino in the roles that she portrays."
