Derek Ramsay gets emotional over positive comments despite going through personal trials

Derek Ramsay: "It’s really touching you say that I’m still on top of my game, even though I get a lot of people say na, ’Laotian ka na, Derek Ramsay...’ Even though may problema ako sa buhay, I am still very, very blessed with what happened in my career. You know, I’ll take it as a challenge na hindi pa tayo laotian deep."

Saad niya, “You know, you just have to always remain positive with your life, and I’m blessed with a successful career.

“A lot of people try to bring you down.

“I love my craft, I love my job.

"I love the people that are always there to support me and carry me through this problem that I…

“If one person who does not have problems in their lives, I bow down.

“Everybody has a problem. I think that’s what life is all about.

“If life was just perfect, I think it would be a boring life.

“In your life, you make a lot of mistakes. Important is that you learn from them.

“And with my craft, with my career, every project that has given to me, every project that entrusted to me, I cherished and I learned to better myself.

“So, with season one [of Amazing Race Philippines], kinakapa ko.

“Season 2, I’m more comfortable with what I was doing…”

STILL ON TOP OF HIS GAME. Patuloy ni Derek, “But, you know, that’s really nice of you to say that I’m still on top of my game.

“But for me, it’s… I don’t think about that.

“Once a responsibility has given to me by my network, TV5... I’ll give my two hundred percent.

"I will work with the people around me. I’m a team player.

“I’m not going to think about myself and just, you know, ‘Kailangan dito guwapo ako dito, kailangan dito ano ako…’

“Makikita ninyo rin ‘yan sa race.

“Kung umuulan, nababasa sila, hindi ako magpapayong.

“Tatanggalin ko yung payong, sasamahan ko yung mga teams under the rain, and even checking them in.”

Saad pa ng actor-TV host, “You guys have known me for almost ten years.

“I’ve been in this industry for almost ten years.

“I’ve been an open book to all of you.

“And it’s nice to see you guys respect me for what I’ve done, for what I have given to this industry.

“So, for me, as long as I’m being given projects that they believe I can do…

“Hindi ko sinasabi na, ‘Hoy, kontrata ko, o! Sabi bigyan ninyo ako ng trabaho…’ Never kong ginawa yun.

“It’s always nice to receive a project, because they believe that you’re the man to do it.

“And TV5 believes that every project they gave me is designed for me.

“Even with my projects with Channel 2 [ABS-CBN], I’m very appreciative of the projects they gave me.

“But right now, nandito ako sa posisyon sa buhay ko na gumawa ako ng major decision in my career, to be with TV5.

“And I said this many times, I stand by my decision.

“And I think that’s the best decision that I’ve ever made.

“And TV5 has been wonderful for giving me this opportunity.

“To be the host of a multi-awarded show, a lot people can’t say they’re part of that.”

PRESENT TRIAL.

Saad niya, “And even though I’m going through trials with my life right now…

“I know the truth because I have a lot of people, including you guys [press], stand beside me and tell me to keep my chin up, even though so many times I wanna fold.

“Even you guys [team players], during the race, ang dami kong iniisip But watching you guys put a smile on my face.

“Ang daming tao na may problema, mas malaki pa ang problema sa akin.

“At lahat ng problema… let’s put it this way, I believe problems are just solutions in this life.

“Lahat ng problema, may solusyon.

“You just have to be patient, you have to find the solution and work hard—whether if it’s about your personal life or career.

“And again, it’s really touching you say that I’m still on top of my game, even though I get a lot of people say na, ‘Laotian ka na, Derek Ramsay.’”

Napangiti si Derek sa kanyang paggamit ng gay lingó, pero pagpapatuloy niya, “No, it’s nice to see that there were actually in my career, you guys, who stood by me, whether by giving me a tap at my back telling me to stay strong.

“And you’ll understand how important it is to me and get through a day.

“With that sense, I’m blessed.

“Even though may problema ako sa buhay, I am still very, very blessed with what happened in my career.

“You know, I’ll take it as a challenge na hindi pa tayo laotian deep.

“I’m here to give my all, give my best.

“And whatever project given to me, if the project is successful, masaya na ako.

“Thank you for your kind words...”

WELL-LOVED. Pinuri naman si Derek ni Ms. Marge Natividad, business unit manager for Amazing Race Philippines, sa pagiging professional ng aktor sa kanyang trabaho at pagiging down to earth nito.

Anya, “In behalf of TV5, we would like to thank Derek Ramsay…

“Marami na rin akong nakatrabahong anchors, dami ko ring artistang nakatrabaho, but I must say na si Derek Ramsay is one of the most professional hosts that I’ve ever worked with.

“Kahit anong ipakain mo sa kanya sa set, hindi ‘yan mamimili.

“Kahit anong pagkain ng production staff, kakainin niya.

“Kahit namumroblema siya at alam naming may pinagdadaanan siya sa personal niyang buhay, when you give him the script, he reads it, ‘tapos tatayo siya sa harap ng kamera and he’ll do it in two minutes.

“Sabi nga nung cameraman namin from Israel, nung nakita siya, ang galing-galing daw ng host namin, because in Israel, they’ll do it like for two hours.

“Ginagawa lang daw natin yung scene ng two-three minutes.

“’Eto yung nakita ko na pinakaimportante kay Derek. Na lahat ng pinuntahan namin na sampung location namin sa Philippines, basta may fans na lumapit sa kanya, wala siyang hinihindian.

“Everyone, pinagbibigyan niya…

“Derek is so loved by so many people and he wouldn’t say no to the people who approach him for a picture; bata, matanda, mabango, may ngipin o wala, nakahubad, naka-brief, lahat pinagbibigyan ni Derek.

“Only for that, I salute him.

“Thank you, Derek, for loving TV5.”

EMOTIONAL DEREK.

Bago nagsalita, uminom muna ng tubig mula sa hawak niyang bottled water ang actor-TV host at saka nagbiro ng: “This portion is brought to you by Summit.”

Saad niya, “It’s nice to hear something positive…

“Ang daming hearsays, ang daming mga comments na nakakasakit.

“But you know, like I said, you have to move forward.

“Life goes on and this is just a little bump in the road.

“But it’s also nice naman to hear, every now and then, positive comments from people that I have been there since the beginning.

“It’s nice to hear that the effort and work that you give is appreciated.

“And still, I’m gonna continue my goal in helping TV5 grow.

“Sinabi ko sa inyo na Channel 2 was once where Channel 5 is.

“They started small, they’re growing, and became the number one network in the country.

“And at the end of the day, in my career, I have the opportunity to say that I helped TV5 grow into something bigger.

“And it’s definitely moving in that direction, and I’m not taking credit, full credit for that.

“But it’s nice to hear from your network, telling you that you’re doing a great job and they value you.

“So, it melts my heart to know that all these sleepless nights, I’m away from family, time away from yourself, is appreciated by these people who are not just my colleagues but like an extension of my family.

“I was touched by what you have said, the kind words…”

You guys are major part of this industry.

“You’re very important in this industry and for you to say these nice things about me, it’s not hard to be emotional.

“It touches me here and paminsan-minsan lang akong umiyak sa totoong buhay.

“Sa TV, ang dali-daling umiyak.

“‘Derek, iiyak na sa TV,’ iyak naman ako agad kasi gusto mo nang umuwi, alas-kuwatro na ng umaga.

“’Pag sinabi ng direktor, iyak, iiyak ka na.

“Pero sa totoong buhay, mabibilang ko kung ilang beses lang akong umiyak.

“I’m proud to say I have more happy tears than sad tears.

“Right now, tears of joy, because of the nice comments you said, guys.

“And of course, from my network, to share their sentiments, how they feel about me, these are definitely tears of joy.

“Maraming-maraming salamat sa inyo.”

Dagdag niya, “No matter what anyone says, hindi ako magbabago.

“Nung nagsimula ako sa Channel 2, nung ini-interview niyo ako doon…

“Sana may isang taong magsabi dito na umiba yung ugali.

“Kung merong isa na [magsabing] ’Nagbago na si Derek Ramsay,’ iku-quit ko na yung career ko.

“Ako pa rin si Derek Ramsay ten years ago… thank you very much.”
