Derek Ramsay: "I want my son to look at me as his best friend."

It’s obvious that TV5 has not lost its confidence in Derek Ramsay and he is thankful, "I have this trial that’s really, really hard, but I have this amazing show that I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while now."

Sabi ni Derek, “Everybody has trials in life.

"You know, it wouldn’t be an interesting life, if life is just all perfect.

"How can you taste success if you don’t have failures?

"Life is filled with ups and downs. It’s like a race.

"It’s not whether you come up on top, it’s how you run this race.

"For me, what’s important is that you keep moving forward.

"And hindi ako magpapaka-plastic.

"I’m not going to change how I was brought up.

"Hindi ako maninira, hindi ako magsasalita ng negative kahit na, you know, my patience is being tested.

"But you look at the bigger picture and the most important thing for me here is my son.

"So, tahimik lang ako."

Nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Derek bago magsimula ang grand press launch ng The Amazing Race Philippines noong Lunes, Setyembre 22, sa Genting Club sa Resorts World Manila.

LIKE HIS DAD.

Saad ni Derek, “If I can have my son look at me the way I look at my father, puwede na akong mamatay, masaya na ako nun.

"My dad’s my best friend. I want my son to look at me as his best friend.

"My nephews, my nieces, they all adore me.

"I always take them out and I always have fun with them. You see, I’m their favorite tito.

"Why won’t I do that to my own son?

“So, it all boils down to that if I’m given an opportunity, and it’s in my contract with her [Mary] that I have that right.

"But she doesn’t let me exercise that right.

"My son said he hates me, my son said he wants to see me in jail.

"I don’t believe he said that, but I’m not gonna call my son a liar.

"I can’t question him. If that’s the case, lulunukin ko, I’ll take it.

"I’ll just find a way for him to see that I’m not that kind of guy that I’m being portrayed to be."

FOR REAL.

“I spent only four times… I’ve got four chances to see my son, an hour each.

"Four hours in three years. And those four times that I saw him, we had a blast.

"They questioned me, bakit ko kasama ang pamilya ko? Bakit hindi ako mag-isa?

"Mapamilya akong tao. I wanted to introduce him. I missed eight years of his life.

"Ipinakilala ko sa mga pamangkin ko, explained to them that he’s my son. I spent alone time with him also.

"So, you’re telling me that my son is acting, he’s not having a good time?

"You’re telling me that my son was acting, like that he was pretending to have fun."

MORE TIME.

Sagot niya, “Most definitely, but I’m not given an opportunity to see him.

"I’m given once a week to call him, Thursdays, five o’ clock, that’s the only time I can call.

"And even with that said, hindi guaranteed yun, and I don’t understand why this is all happening.

"I’d love to call him every day just to see how he is, just to see how his school is going.

"At least get to see him once a week, not four times in three years.

"This is the fifth time I see my son, and in court.”

“They don’t even know anything about what’s going on because it’s a family matter.

"They think that my silence means that I’m lying or I’m hiding something.

"Let me have a relationship with my son before I brag about it to the world.

"They don’t know what my plan is, makikita na lang nila.

"But like I said, I want to have a relationship with my son before the whole world tries to jump in there and question me.

"I only care about him.

"Ako, sasagutin ko lahat ng tanong, you can say anything about me, pero huwag mong aatakihin ang pamilya ko."

AMAZING SHOW.

“There you go, that’s how life works.

"I have this trial that’s really, really hard, but I have this amazing show that I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while now.

"Na-enjoy lang talaga namin yung first season, and I’m just glad that TV5 decided to do a second season.

"I got to do something that I love to do, which is travel.

"I get to travel around the Philippines again, to go to new places all over the country.

"And I get to watch eleven teams compete, racing around the Philippines.

"I would say the teams now are ten times more competitive than the racers in season one.

"There’s more drama on and off cam.

"It’s definitely more competitive because the prizes got bigger, two million pesos, house and lot for each person, and a brand new car for each person.

"So, laban talaga kung laban.”
