Rafael Rosell against spoon-fed knowledge: “I don’t believe schools teach you to think. They teach you how to memorize facts.”

Rafael Rosell, a vegan, speaks about animal advocacy: “So, do you love animals or do you just love pets... So you love dogs, you love cats, but you want to kill the cows, the chickens, the pigs and everyone else. So basically, it’s selective compassion.”

Ayon kay Rafael, “There are weaker solar panels na puwede pala.

“Sobrang lakas nila, they can give you power that’s four times stronger than normal electricity.”

SOLAR ENERGY.

Patuloy pa niya, “They have other types of solar panels now na mas mahina, na kaya lang i-power ang mga ilaw, or heater ng shower, yun pinayagan ako.

“So nagsimula muna ako doon and then until I get to [bring] in the ’good goods,’ I’ll just keep it ano.

Lahad niyang may halong pagkadismaya, “They’re overcharging. It’s so cheap, actually.

“Of course they don’t want you to have electricity on your own.

“Paano na yung profit nila? ’Di ba?”

DILIM.

VEGAN. Organic vegetables din ang kinakain ni Rafael.

Patuloy niya, “Siguro nag-start yun mga four or five years ago pero kumakain pa rin ako isda.

“And then late last year, kinat-out ko na yung isda. Vegetarian na ako and then siguro mga February I went vegan na. No by-products from animals na rin.

“It’s an advocacy [for animals].

“We’re going through something na hindi natin alam, e.

“It’s called speciecism.

“It’s like racism, ’di ba? Kapag racism, you like one race but you hate another race, ’di ba?

“Pero speciecism naman—you like a certain species but you hate the rest.

“So, do you love animals or do you just love pets?

“So, you love dogs, you love cats, but you want to kill the cows, the chickens, the pigs and everyone else.

“So basically, it’s selective compassion.”

WHY HE DOESN’T EAT MEAT. Saan niya nakuha ang ganitong passion or advocacy?

Dati, I was so against that na parang sabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘No, we’re supposed to eat meat. We’re supposed to kill.’

“And then I started researching even more, only to find out na yung animal agriculture natin kahit magtipid tayo ng pagsa-shower natin, kahit magtipid pa tayo sa paghuhugas ng pinggan natin, wala tayong magagawa [to stop] pollution sa water natin dahil yung animal agriculture [causes] 53 percent of the pollution sa tubig natin.

“Fifty-three percent!

“And even if all of us start showering, we’ll only account for about 13 percent.

“So ang question ko ngayon dito is bakit yung mga organizations na environmentalist, how come they don’t target the number one cause of pollution, which is animal agriculture?

“On top of the water pollution, animal agriculture produces methane gas, ’di ba ang baho?

I think we’re all born free and we’re all born to be free.

“’Tapos pipilitin mo ang sarili mo na gumising, mag-toothbrush, kumain, pumunta sa isang place when all this time you could just spend time with your family, di ba?

“You basically work so you can pay for your house, but you can’t live in your house ’cause you have to work.

“[You work] so you can pay for a car that you use for work, but then anong meron sa ’yo in the end?”

STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY.

Ani Rafael, “You gotta stop eating, you gotta stop the killing.”

“So it’s a sad thing, e.”

Ayon pa kay Rafael, “To make one quarterpounder [hamburger], a cow will consume six hundred gallons of water.

“And then it takes how many tons of grass or grains to feed a cow? Why can’t we just feed that to people?”

“Yeah let them live, ’di ba?

“The reason behind this is profit.

“Yun lang naman yun, e.”

KNOWLEDGE VS EDUCATION.

Paliwanag pa ni Rafael, “Yeah yeah, I know, I’m well aware na people still frown on it. But I think the root cause of that is lack of knowledge.

“I’m not saying that they were educated wrong, I’m just saying that the information available for us was never given to us in the first place.

“Dahil sa school, they don’t teach you to think. To be honest with you, I don’t believe schools teach you to think.

“They teach you how to memorize facts.

“They teach you how to memorize history. And who’s to say that the history they teach is right? Maybe they teach us that type of history para sa patriotism natin.

“But I don’t think Magellan discovered the Philippines, Filipinos were already here. They found him lost at sea!

“Columbus didn’t discover America, there were native Indians there, ’di ba?

“So anong ginawa [nila]?

“They committed genocide—they wiped out the native Americans. And then they say Hitler is bad for killing six million Jews, when they killed millions and millions of native [Americans].

"I’m not saying I’m right, I’m not saying you should think like me, but doesn’t this make you think?

Why not question that?”
