PEP Talk. Darren Espanto admits pressure ahead of his birthday concert at MOA

Darren Espanto on what to expect at his sophomore concert: “There’s a lot of dancing and meron pong mga performances na dito ko lang po talaga gagawin. That’s why it’s very exciting for me po, kasi marami akong mga surprises.”

When The Voice Kids Philippines runner-up Darren Espanto goes on stage at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on May 29, he will be the youngest performer to mount a major solo concert at the 16,000-capacity venue.

Darren admitted that he’s pressured by the hugeness of the project, moreso by the faith of the show’s organizers in him.

The venue had housed the major concerts of perennial crowd-drawers like Vice Ganda and Daniel Padilla, not to mention the big names in international entertainment like Demi Lovato most recently.

“At first, I was pressured kasi MOA Arena, and my first major concert was at the Music Museum.

“Biglang we leaped to MOA Arena so I was nervous.

“Medyo kabado po because I don’t know how people would react to it.

“Pero so far, okay naman po yung sales ng tickets.

“And I’m very excited to perform the set list we have prepared,” Darren opened up to (Philippine Entertainment Portal) senior staff writer Bernie Franco in this exclusive interview on PEP Talk.

And then again, another pressure in the person of Kris Aquino has surfaced.

It’s no secret that the Queen of All Media is a big fan of Darren and has promised she will be present at his concert.

Darren said, “Yes po, yung buong family daw po, so parang mas nape-pressure po ako na mas ibigay ko po yung todo ko po.”

What can Kris and the rest of the audience expect from his concert?

The young performer answered, “There are a lot of dancing.

“And meron pong mga performances na dito ko lang po talaga gagawin.

“That’s why it’s very exciting for me po, kasi marami akong mga surprises.”

Darren added, “There are a lot of songs here, there’s pop, there’s electronic music, ballads, and marami pa po."

Among his guests in his concert are The Voice of the Philippines winners Mitoy Yonting and Jason Dy as well as Season 2 runner-up Alisah Bonaobra.

Darren also revealed that James “Bimby” Yap, Jr. will also have a special participation in his concert.

Last Sunday, May 24, Darren celebrated his 14th birthday with a special number on ABS-CBN’s Sunday musical-variety show ASAP where he performed "In Love Ako Sa 'Yo," the carrier single of his self-titled album.

And his birthday gift for himself, “Well, I got to spend time with my family naman po, and parang yun na rin yung gift ko po.”
