Richard Gutierrez keeps mum about ’huge’ talent fee in TV5; open to do teleseryes again

Richard Gutierrez on choosing the right projects: “Kasi parang nandun ako sa point ng life ko na if it doesn’t make me better, if it doesn’t make me happy, and if it doesn’t make me money, I won’t spend time on it.”

“Siyempre I’m gonna be smarter this time.”

Currently a freelance artist, Richard Gutierrez clarified that he’s not closing his doors to the possibility of signing an exclusive contract with a certain TV network if given the chance.

“Pag-iisipan ko nang matindi.

“Siyempre aayusin dapat yung legalities and all that stuff, kung meron man,” said Richard, who used to be an exclusive artist of GMA Network for 10 years.

Although he appeared in ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Deal or No Deal a few weeks ago, Richard maintained that there’s no conflict with the fact that he’s currently connected with TV5’s KISPINOY (K-Pop Icon Search Pinoy Edition).

“We’ll see what happens.

“Right now, I’m happy with KISPINOY. We’re still going to Korea.

"And we’re finishing It Takes Gutz Season 3, and yun muna for now."

At this point in his career, Richard feels that it’s more of an advantage for him to be a “free agent” so he could easily balance his priorities.

“Sa akin it’s an advantage kasi control ko yung oras ko ngayon.

“I’m happy that way. I’m happy where I am right now.

“Ilang taon din akong nagtuluy-tuloy.

“Ngayon, it’s my time naman to choose and take care of time management sa sarili ko,” he said.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PROJECTS. PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment reporters got to interview Richard at the bloggers’ conference for KISPINOY held at Jet 7 Bistro, Quezon City, Wednesday, July 8.

As much as he misses doing soap operas, the 30-year-old actor-TV host further said that he’s very meticulous about choosing the right projects this time around.

“For me, number one na priority is the content and yung role na gagampanan ko.

“Marami pa akong gustong gawin na roles. Depende rin sa director ko, sa writer.

“It has to be a project that will really excite me.

“Kasi, parang nandun ako sa point ng life ko na if it doesn’t make me better, if it doesn’t make me happy, and if it doesn’t make me money, I won’t spend time on it.”

This led the reporters to ask if it’s true that he got huge talent fee for hosting KISPINOY, just like what his mom Annabelle Rama stated in a presscon for the same show last month.

But Richard, who’s supposedly the most generous among the Gutierrez siblings, refused to disclose his earnings and merely answered, “Ewan ko sa kanya…”

The 30-year-old also remained unassuming when told that he seems to be his mom’s favorite child, especially in light of Annabelle’s love-hate relationship with his elder sister Ruffa Gutierrez.

“Hindi naman. Pana-panahon lang siguro.

“Ito yung panahon na magkasundo kami. Panahon nila ni Ate na hindi magkasundo.

“Marami kaming magkakapatid, e, so I’m sure nahirapan din siya mag-manage sa aming magkakapatid.

“Pero, ever since before naman, my mom has been very supportive sa akin since day one.

“I try to give back as much as I can.”

Richard is very much aware that his mom has a feisty personality and tends to blast his elder sister, whether in public or via social media.

But he’s happy to say that most of Annabelle’s time now is centered on taking care of her grandkids.

“Oo, ganun pa rin siya [mataray].

“Medyo mas kumalma lang siya ngayon dahil marami na siyang apo at nae-enjoy niya yung oras sa bahay, spending time with the kids.

"So, I’m very happy na ganun si Mommy ngayon."

HAPPY FOR SARAH’S CAREER MOVE. On a different note, Richard said that he’s happy for his longtime partner Sarah Lahbati, who officially signed an exclusive contract with Viva Artists Agency.

Formerly a Kapuso star like Richard, Sarah’s contract with GMA Network expired this year.

“I’m very happy for her.

“Alam ko yung Viva management will really take care of her. Magaling sila mag-alaga ng talents, every little project [natututukan].

“And they’re multi-medium also. They have movies [Viva Films], they have connections on TV and they have music [Viva Music].

“It’s good for Sarah.

"She’s very excited and parang bumalik yung fire niya, yung drive niya, so I’m very happy for her.”

Richard added that the negotiations for Sarah’s contract with Viva only took a month or so before it got finalized.

“Siguro one or two months lang [siyang walang manager].

“After ng contract niya with GMA, negotiation with Viva underwent. So, sandali lang naman.

"She’s really looking forward to a new beginning.”
