Shaina Magdayao, 25, revealed that she and ex-boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz, 32, are friends and not just civil to each other.
“We're friends,” she directly stated when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked her to describe how they are towards each other three years after their controversial breakup.
PEP and other entertainment reporters were able to interview Shaina after the presscon of SingleSingle, which was held at ABS-CBN's 9501 restaurant, Thursday afternoon, August 13.
The romantic history between John Lloyd and Shaina resurfaced as they briefly worked together for the first time via ABS-CBN's primetime series Nathaniel.
Shaina, for her part, reiterated that there's no big deal about it since they've actually bumped into each other many times since their relationship ended sometime in April 2012.
The SingleSingle actress further explained her previous interactions with John Lloyd: “I already answered that dun sa A and A [Aquino and Abunda Tonight] kasi everyone's asking me nga.
“Pero kasi, this is not the first time that we saw each other.
“Marami nang Star Magic Ball ang nakalipas.
“Hindi naman ganoon [kalaki] ang mundo.
“We still have common friends. So, we attend same parties. 'Pag may birthday yung kaibigan namin.
“So, no, it's not the first time [that I saw John Lloyd when we taped for Nathaniel].”
On hindsight, Shaina said the fact that she and John Lloyd haven't really worked with each other when they were still a couple might be the reason why people started to speculate about seeing them together on screen.
“Naging big deal lang siya because it is the first time na nagkatrabaho kami.
“Never naman kami nakita sa screen, e, together.
“And at that time, hindi kami magtatrabaho talaga just to separate things in your life, 'di ba?
"But other than that, wala namang big deal," she stressed.
Truth be told, Shaina said that she has no “hang-ups” about her past relationship with John Lloyd, adding that she doesn't dwell on “negativity.”
So, she's cool about being friends with an ex?
“I think okay naman ako.
"Kumportable naman ako sa buhay ko ngayon at kung saan man ako.
"So, I'm okay with everyone."
