Maricar Reyes wants to have a baby with husband Richard Poon soon

Maricar Reyes on taking a short break from her showbiz career: "Priority kasi namin ang family. Gusto namin magka-baby [ni Richard]."

Actress Maricar Reyes has decided to take a break from showbiz to prioritize raising a family with husband Richard Poon.

Except for her commercial endorsements, Maricar hasn’t been visible on Kapamilya network since her notable portrayal in Sana Bukas Ang Kahapon last year.

“Priority kasi namin ang family. Gusto namin magka-baby,” she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainent Portal) in a solo interview at Mesa Restaurant in Quezon City, Thursday, August 27.

Maricar added, “So, yun yung na-realize namin nung nagso-soap ako last year.

“Hindi kami nagkikita [ni Richard]. Kapag nagkita kami, pagod.

“Kaya ako nag-break nang kaunti.

“In the meantime, naggu-grow kami ng business together.”

Maricar was referring to her newly-launched homemade cake business called Maricar’s Choco-Liquor Cakes.

STAYING TRUE TO THEIR VOWS. Maricar explained that setting aside her acting career is a small price to pay for the sake of her marriage.

“I want to say na hindi, pero siyempre nanghihinayang din ako na yung kita ko as an actress, bumababa, my visibility on TV is not like before.

“Pero ganun talaga, e. Yun yung vow mo sa altar.

"Di ba, yung veil nung wedding nasa head ng girl, tapos nasa shoulders ng guy?

“So, parang hindi naman sa under, kasi under is a negative term.

“Pero you’re like, in a way, partners kayo, pero you’re also under his leadership.

“Team kayo, pero team captain siya.”

But at the same time, Maricar says that it’s not as if she just follows whatever Richard says.

At the start of their marriage, they made an agreement that either one of them has the right to put a stop to whatever argument they’re having once they feel hurt.

Maricar added, “The team captain also has to listen to me.

"Although leader siya, sobrang nararamdaman ko rin na I have a right to speak and to be heard. Na-appreciate ko rin yun.”

COMPANIONSHIP NEEDS. Maricar further said that she is really happy with the way her relationship with Richard has grown stronger.

They marked their second wedding anniversary last July 9.

“Nung second anniversary namin, nagsulat ako sa blog namin, sa Relationship Matters, na ang title 'You Fight With Me The Most.'

“Totoo talaga yun. I feel like you can’t really know a person until you’ve fought with them.

“Dun mo talaga makikita yung kadiliman ng tao, how he deals with issues.

“So, everytime we fight, I feel like hindi ko gusto.

"Pero we get even closer. After every fight, we resolve it well,” she related.

What can she say about Richard who previously admitted to being short-tempered?

“As much as sabihin niya na mainitin ang ulo niya, ako rin naman, e.

"Mas magaling lang ako magtago, pero mainitin din ang ulo ko," Maricar easily admitted to PEP.

Aside from spending quality time together, the 34-year-old Kapamilya star maintained that it really helps for a couple to meet each other’s “companionship needs.”

For instance, Maricar has developed a healthy interest in watching Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on TV, which is one of Richard's favorite pastimes.

The 41-year-old big band crooner, in turn, has learned to share Maricar’s love for swimming and taking care of dogs.

“Alam namin yung needs ng isa’t isa.

“As much as I can, kahit sobrang hirap yung needs niya, I’ll try to meet it.

“At siya naman yung needs ko, he’s trying to meet it, also,” she beamed.
