American news website Morning News USA has featured AlDub and its phenomenal success on microblogging site Twitter.
In an article titled “Do You See #ALDUB A Lot On Twitter Lately? We Have The Answer,” written by Athena Yenko, it explained why the official hashtags used for the current phenomenal love team in the country always top trending topics on Twitter, not only in the Philippines but all over the world.
It even compared Filipino stars Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza to the onscreen chemistry of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in the Hollywood film Crazy, Stupid, Love.
The story quoted the interview of Rappler with Twitter Asia Pacific and Middle East Vice President Rishi Jaitly, who dubbed AlDub as a "global phenomenon."
Jaitly noted that Eat Bulaga's hashtag last September 26, #AlDubEBforLove, which recorded 25.6 million Twitter posts, surpassed the tweets about the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
#AlDubEBforLove was also close to breaking the record of Super Bowl XLIX during the game between Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, which had 28.4 million tweets last February 2015.
In the interview, Jaitly admitted that Twitter also doubted the authenticity of the tweets in the beginning.
However, he said: “This is such a global phenomenon, as I said, that we had to look internally to make sure that these tweet volumes were in fact authentic.
“But this is real. This is not a sideshow. This is real media being creative.”
As of now, the record for the most number of tweets belongs to 2014's FIFA soccer semifinal game between Germany and Brazil, which created 35.6 million tweets.
This Saturday, October 24, Eat Bulaga will hold a special grand fans' day for AlDub Nation dubbed as “Tamang Panahon” at the Philippine Arena.
Can the AlDub Nation surpass the record of the “most tweeted hashtag”?
