After performing at a full-house show at the Philippine Arena, it’s quite hard to believe that Alden Richards once felt "awkward" as one of the TV hosts of Eat Bulaga!
But in an exclusive interview with YES! Magazine’s November 2015 issue, Alden recalled that his first day on the Kapuso noontime show was nerve-wracking.
Alden joined Eat Bulaga! last April, and was later tasked to co-host “That’s My Bae” segment.
It was in the same talent search segment that he earned the title “Pambansang Bae.”
The 23-year-old actor recounted, “Ang hirap kasi, all of them can host without idiot boards already.
“They can ad-lib. That’s how good they are.
“They’re just given talk points, and then they elaborate on these—live on TV, a.
“So medyo hindi pa ako sanay do’n.”
Truth be told, Alden described his sense of humor as “medyo corny,” to the point that he can sense when people around him are just forced to laugh at his punchlines.
But after months of working with veteran comedians, Alden said that he’s getting the hang of being part of a show that has been in the business of entertaining Filipino viewers for 36 years now.
“I learn from them, kasi, being with them every day, of course you get a chance to know everybody, not only on screen but personally.
“It’s a family.
“I’m very, very impressed sa team ng Eat Bulaga!
"Kumbaga, ang tagal-tagal na ng show, they still manage, e.
“Alam pa rin nila yung kiliti ng Pinoy,” he enthused.
To date, Alden enjoys the phenomenal success of his teamup with Yaya Dub (a.k.a. Maine Mendoza) in Eat Bulaga!’s "Kalyeserye" segment.
But, of course, he didn’t forget to thank the unwavering support from solid AlDub fans.
“The moment we started, from day one, binago ng mga tao yung buhay namin, in an instant.
"Kaya we owe this to them, and of course to the Lord. He is the ultimate hand that made this possible."
