“It’s not a problem. We’re all entitled to who we want.”
Thus did Heart Evangelista react to her mom Cecile Ongpauco’s decision to support Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s presidential bid in the 2016 elections.
Mrs. Ongpauco was at UP Bahay ng Alumni last October 26 when Senator Miriam announced her decision to run for president in the 2016 presidential elections.
Heart, on the other hand, is supporting the presidential bid of Senator Grace Poe, running mate of her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero.
Heart explained, “Ang pulitika naman, dapat labas talaga ang pamilya at friendship pagdating sa ganyan.
“Kasi madaming nag-aaway na pamilya dahil sa pulitika.
“Hindi kami ganun.
“And I’m very, very confident that my family is very strong after everything we’ve been through.
“So, something like that shouldn’t really bother us.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interviewed Heart at the press launch of her beauty guide book, This is Me, Love Marie, at National Book Store Glorietta 1, Sunday, November 8.
CONVERSATION WITH SEN. MIRIAM. Heart also revealed that she had the chance to talk to Senator Miriam, whom the actress considers a close friend and mentor.
“Actually, sinabi niya, ‘She [Cecile Ongpauco] doesn’t have to go. We’re friends.’
“Pero siyempre, yung mommy ko, she wanted to show her loyalty.
“Ako rin, I talked to her.
“Pero Tita Miriam said, ‘You know, it’s right that you stand by your husband. And I respect that.
“And we’ll always be friends. Even if we don’t talk, or we talk after how many years, friends don’t forget each other.’
“So, wala kaming problema,” Heart reiterated.
It will be recalled that Senator Miriam played matchmaker between Heart and Chiz in May 2012.
Heart added that Chiz also respected her mom’s choice of presidential bet.
"Siyempre naman, understandable naman. So, ok lang yun."
At the end of the interview, the Kapuso actress quipped that Chiz still has time to convince Mrs. Ongpauco to change her mind.
Heart cheerfully remarked, “Hanggang May pa naman. Mayroon tayong time to convince her. Liligawan niya ulit.
“Wala, ganun talaga, e. We have the right to look at everybody kung sino talagang gusto natin.”
