Did you know that Janella Salvador was discovered in Eat Bulaga!?
At last November 12's pocket presscon for Haunted Mansion, an entry to the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival, the Star Magic talent revealed that she participated as a contestant in the segment “Sa Pula, Sa Puti,” which then featured the children of celebrities.
Janella is the daughter of singer-actress Jenine Desiderio and musician Juan Miguel Salvador.
“Actually, na-discover ako sa kabila, sa game show. Parang sinali ako sa Eat Bulaga!.
“You know ‘Sa Pula, Sa Puti?’ Kasi yung mom ko yung artist, di ba? Parang sabi nila, ‘O, kunin natin mga anak ng artista.’
“Ang kasama ko dun sila Janine Gutierrez, sila Winwyn Marquez. Pinakanta ako doon.
“And then after that segment, kahit natalo ako and mahiyain ako, bigla akong tinawagan ni DMV [Direk Manny Valera], 'tapos sinabi, ‘We’re interested.’"
In 2013, Janelle became past of the Kapamilya network.
She continued, “After that, nag-Star Magic naman.
"So ayun, when I met up with Star Magic, sinabay na rin yung auditions [for Be Careful With My Heart] during that day.
“Pagbaba ko sa auditions, malapit na siya mag-close.
"Tapos super-mahiyain ako, awkward in front of the camera, di ko in-expect na yung Be Careful, makukuha na 'ko.
“They made me read a script na sabi ko, 'Ang haba! Paano ko 'to ime-memorize?'
"Awkward, I was so awkward. I didn’t really expect. I was fourteen.”
REACHING OUT TO HER FATHER. Next year, on March 30, Janella will be turning 18.
Will she be inviting her father Juan Miguel to her debut?
She answered, “Well, oo naman. Definitely, I will invite him.
“Dad ko siya and he has the right to see that grand celebration.
"It’s up to him kung pupunta siya.”
It can be remembered that in 2002, Jenine and Juan Miguel separated. Janella was only three years old then.
The young actress revealed that it was only last August when she saw her father again after six years.
“Actually, noong nag-start ako sa Be Careful, I haven’t seen him for six years.
“The first time I saw him, recently only, was noong August."
She then related her touching encounter with Juan Miguel.
“Kasi nagpe-perform siya sa Strumm's, so every Thrusday 'yon.
“E, we were around the area. Sabi ko sa mama ko, ‘Mama, what if we drop by? Huwag na lang natin sabihin na pupunta tayo.’
“So nagtago kami para ma-watch siya. Na-watch ko siya for the first time in my life.
"Never ko pa siya na-watch mag-perform kasi everyone tells me, ‘Ang galing-galing ng dad mo,’ hindi ako maka-relate. Gusto ko siya ma-watch.
"Finally, na-watch ko siya. Na-overwhelm ako kasi ang galing-galing niya at his age pa rin.”
But of course, even though her visit was unplanned, she let her father know about it.
“Nalaman din niya, so parang it would be impolite naman kung hindi ako bumati.
“So, pagkatapos niya mag-perform, when he went down, paalis na kami, nag-hi ako. Nag-talk na kami. Di ako makahinga nun!”
Did she cry during their meet up?
She answered, “Not in front of them, pero it was emotional din naman for me.”
But what was her father’s reaction upon seeing her?
“Nagulat siya siyempre, siguro.
"Kasi I don’t think he’s comfortable with me and my mom watching him."
She added, “Wala naman talaga akong galit sa kanya. Naiyak talaga ako after. It was short lang.
“He said bakit hindi ako nagte-text, kasi we don’t really communicate din.
“Binigay [naman yung number] pero hindi ko alam sasabihin ko, e. Birthdays lang ako, Christmas [nagte-text].
"Then, nag-hug kami."
She also related, “Actually, nakakatawa kasi naka-ilang attempt kami to watch before that.
“Yung bago yun, epic fail talaga. It was Father’s Day, magpe-peform siya sa McKinley Hill.
“Noong papunta kami, ‘Uy, magpe-perform siya!
“Pagtanong namin sa guard, 7 P.M.. [Sabi ng guard], ‘Ha? Tapos na po yung banda.’
“[Sagot namin,] ‘Ha? Anong tapos na, e, nakalagay doon, 7 P.M.?
“Yun pala, kahapon. So, na-miss namin siya!”
RELATIONSHIP WITH MOM. Janella clarified that her mom Jenine never stopped her from reaching out to her father.
However, she admitted that her mom is strict, and just like most moms and daughters, they have their share of petty fights.
“Ever since naman bata ako, medyo upright yung bringing niya sa akin.
“So, medyo traditional din siya with some things.
"So it’s normal naman for my mom na medyo maging strict siya.
“I think it’s normal rin for people my age to have misunderstandings so ayun lang yun.”
