After two months of competition, Fil-Australian crooner Cyrus Villanueva emerged as the grand winner of The X Factor Australia Season 7.
Cyrus is the second artist of Filipino descent to have won the competition after 16-year-old Marlisa Punzalan, who bested fellow contestants in the show's sixth edition.
His father is Filipino while his mom is Australian.
Cyrus, a 19-year-old student from New South Wales, beat 31-year-old singer Louise Adams and couple Jess and Matt in the grand finals through public vote.
Louise placed second while Jess & Matt ranked third.
After the announcement of the winner this Tuesday night, November 24, host Luke Jacobz asked Cyrus how he felt about his victory.
An emotional Cyrus answered, “I can't thank everyone enough.”
He went on to thank everyone who became a part of his journey.
“I want to thank my beautiful family and friends, all the other contestants, the judges, Chris [Isaak], of course. I couldn't have had a better mentor than you.”
WINNING SONGS. Cyrus performed “Wicked Game” before his name was announced as the winner, and after he and Louise were declared the Top 2 in the competition.
Isaak, who chose “Wicked Game” for Cyrus, considered it his best moment song throughout the competition.
Cyrus first performed the song for the live show's second week.
Other performers include American singer Jason Derulo and his latest track "Get Ugly"; English band Rudimental with its new song "Lay It All on Me”; and sisters Kylie & Dannii Minogue, who shared the stage once more after 30 years with their rendition of "100 Degrees.”
On Monday, November 23, the Top 3 finalists performed three songs each for the final live shows.
Cyrus got favorable reviews for his rendition of The Weeknd’s “Earned It” which was his audition piece, Labrinth’s “Jealous,” his grand final song, and the winner’s single titled “Stone.”
