Marichu Maceda denies dictating MMFF jurors on Honor Thy Father disqualification case

"I was not aware your honor [of what transpired during the December 14 and December 21 meetings]. I was only made aware during the December 26 meeting," says MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos regarding Marichu Maceda's statement about December 14 and 21 discussions about the disqualification case involving Honor Thy Father.

Nanindigan si Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Executive Committee member Marichu 'Manay Ichu' Maceda na hindi niya diniktahan ang Board of Jurors kaugnay ng diskwalipikasyon ng Honor Thy Father sa Best Picture category, para sa isinagawang MMFF Awards Night noong December 27.

Paliwanag ni Manay Ichu, "[On] December 21, while they were deliberating, we informed the chairman of the jury, Professor Weng Reyes, who unfortunately is not present today, that we have to inform the jury that there is a problem with the Best Picture category and that we were going to recommend to the jury about the disqualification from the Best Picture category.

"Professor Weng specifically made it known that she wanted the opinion of the jury regarding the disqualification and she even asked, 'Would you like to be part of the decision?'

"And Ms. Julie Yap Daza [Board of Jurors member] said we want to be part of the decision.

"We don't want it to be decided upon solely by the ExeCom. Am I right? She said that?

"And that's when we assured the jury that we would take care of the responsibility and we will take it up on the ExeCom"

Diin pa niya, "It is not true that we dictated on them."

Paliwanag ni Manay Ichu, "We did not call any meetings after November 6.

"We could not call an ExeCom meeting because there was a transfer of position from [then outgoing MMDA] Chairman [Francis] Tolentino to Chairman Carlos.

"And then there was APEC [Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation assembly in Manila], and then we could only call the meeting of the special committee on December 14.

"And that is when we felt that complaints that have been piling up through the weeks that several people were informing us, 'Bakit isasali pa 'yang Honor Thy Father, e, nilabas na 'yan sa festivals?"

"It was always at the back of our minds.

"And yet, we admit we did not act on it because we thought compassionate, nakapagastos na sila.

"But again, [on] December 14, we realized that violations were made, so we acted on it."

Sagot ni Manay Ichu sa interpolasyon sa kanya ng isang kongresista, "After December 21, we have no time to call the ExeCom for a meeting because we were busy preparing for the Parade of Stars, which was on December 23.

"On December 24, we could not [hold a meeting]."

POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF EXECOM MEMBERS?

Paliwanag ni MMDA Chairman Carlos, "I was not aware your honor [of what transpired during the December 14 and December 21 meetings].

"I was only made aware during the December 26 meeting."

Dagdag pa niya, "I think there was a different version that was communicated to us.

"You may allow the persons involved, particularly Ms. Marichu, to explain the version that was relayed to us on December 26."
