John "Sweet" Lapus says 30 percent of matinee idols in local showbiz are gay

John “Sweet” Lapus wants his latest film role to make an impact on closet gays, including fellow celebrities.

“Ako kasi, pag may character na ginagawa in any movie that I do, sana may tamaan naman,” the proudly gay actor said at the press conference of Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil held at The Frazzled Cook Restaurant in Quezon City last Wednesday, May 9.

Sweet plays Kristoff who struggles to keep his being gay hidden from his strict parents.

“Sana may mga tamaan na gays in the closet who are having a very difficult time now.

“Can you imagine, they go pa to other countries na pagkamahal-mahal just to have sex,” revealed Sweet.

And who are these celebrities?

“Naku, napakadami, may senior, may matinee idol.

“Most of them are my friends… up to their death, hindi nila aaminin na bakla sila.”

And then he dropped the bomb, “Marami pa rin naman yung straight na matinee idol and singers.

“Sa singers, parang 20 percent [gay] out of 100 percent.

DECEPTIVE. According to Sweet, celebrities go through great lengths to hide their true color that they’ve mastered the art of disguise.

“Ngayon kasi ang advanced na nila, you will never know.

Sweet added he used to deplore the hypocrisy of some closet gays.

“Nung araw nagagalit ako sa ganyan, naiinis ako, for that matter.

“During my time, nag-blind item na rin ako ng ilang celebrities.

“Pero ngayon hindi na, naiintindihan ko na.

“Siguro nanggaling yung acceptance ko… feeling ko nga mahirap yung buhay nila.

“Yung mundong kinabibilangan nila.

“I’m sure gusto na rin nilang mag-out, pero may iniisip na family, career, so ‘wag nang magalit sa kanila.

“Initindihin mo na lang sila.”

IMPRISONED BY FEAR. Sweet said it’s like being imprisoned.

“You are not freed.

“There’s a part of your life na hanggang diyan ka lang.

“Or naging buhay namin kesa sa kanila when they were still alive.

“Yun ang lesson sa character ni Kristoff, na life is too short.

“You have to enjoy it, huwag mong sayangin ang buhay mo.”
