An emotional Pia Wurtzbach took her farewell walk onstage at the Binibining Pilipinas 2016 prior to the awarding ceremonies at the coronation night held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night, April 17.
She was welcomed by a festive band as she walked towards the microphone.
She opened her speech by thanking God and her Filipino supporters for making her dreams come true.
“Magandang gabi po sa inyong lahat.
“Nais ko pong magsimula sa pamamagitan ng pagbigay ng taus-pusong pasasalamat sa Diyos at sa buong sambayanang Pilipino.
“Maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat,” she began.
A teary-eyed Pia recalled the years she appeared on that same stage aiming to bag a crown and shared her biggest realization.
“In the years that I have appeared on this very same stage, my biggest realization is that you should never give up on your dreams.
“We should never waver in our perseverance, and never let obstacles hinder our progress.”
Pia continued, “A dream is a picture of a possibility and we should have a strong heart and a prepared mind to turn that into reality.”
THANK YOU LIST. Pia thanked everyone who helped her along the way and kept her feet on the ground.
She started by thanking Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) president Stella Marquez-Araneta.
Pia continued, “In this moment, I’d like to express my sincerest gratitude to the people who have helped me win Miss Universe.
“If it wasn’t for you I would not have achieved this humble achievement.
“Most especially to Binibining Pilipinas Charities led by Madam Stella Marquez Araneta.
“To my family, you are my life coaches; to Aces and Queens, my mentors; to my friends, who are my anchors, and make sure that I am humble all the time.
“To the Pianatics who are my angels and who defend me all the time.
“Thank you so much.”
MESSAGE FOR MAXINE. After thanking the important people who helped her, she shared her short but sweet message for her successor, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2016 Maxine Medina.
“And to my successor, just remember to give your best.
“Behind that beautiful gown, your knees may be trembling, like me right now.
“I am still not used to it. Being in front of millions of people is nerve-wracking but you have to remember that you are proudly wearing that sash that says Philippines.
“And believe me, in your moments of doubt, you just have to remember that you have the whole country cheering you on.”
Pia closed her speech with a very encouraging message.
She proudly declared, “Tonight, I feel like I am graduating.
“Tonight, it’s the beginning of a journey for a confidently beautiful Filipina.
“Mabuhay ang gandang Pilipina, mabuhay ang Pilipina, mabuhay tayong lahat!”
