Liza Soberano clarifies rumors about her inclusion in next Spider-Man movie

Liza Soberano clarifies that she has not received any formal invitation from Marvel to play Mary Jane in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.


There have been recent talks on social media that Dolce Amore lead actress Liza Soberano will be included the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

It was believed that Marvel, the creator of Spider-Man, invited the 18-year-old actress to play Mary Jane, the love interest of Spiderman/Peter Parker.

However, in an interview with Star Cinema, ABS-CBN’s film arm, Liza clarified that there is no truth to the rumor, which only got hyped up online by eager fans who want the actress for the said role. She also made it clear that there has not been any formal invitation from Marvel.

She said, “It’s not really an invitation, I think it was what the fans [of Marvel] wanted.

“All my fans started re-tweeting it and everything, but wala naman po talagang invitation.”

But then, Liza said that she sees it as a good opportunity if ever the role lands on her lap.

She admitted, “I would love that [to play Mary Jane]. That would be a nice opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Liza’s manager Ogie Diaz clarified on his DZMM program Mismo that it's not true that Liza received an invitation from Marvel to play the role.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, topbilled by Tom Holland, is expected to hit theaters in July 2017.
