Buwelta ni Aiza sa kanyang Instagram post, Linggo, Agosto 28: “Sir, maybe you should talk to US before you say anything about abolishing SK.
“Kung totoo ang sinasabi ninyong lahat na 'ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan,' then you will be doing a great disservice to your country and countrymen should you decide to push through with this.”
Sa official statement ng NYC, umapela si Aiza: “The new SK is designed to be an effective and efficient governance mechanism specially for social development and on the war on drugs.
“With the SK, the state is telling young people that 'you are not mere beneficiaries, you are our partners'.
“To abolish it is tantamount to depriving the youth of their voice in local governance.”
NYC BUCKS SK ABOLITION PLAN "Please do not take the youth out of the governance equation." The National Youth Commission (NYC) today expressed alarm over the reported plan of some legislators to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) after the impending postponement of the Barangay and SK polls originally scheduled this October saying the move will disenfranchise the Filipino youth. NYC Chair Aiza Seguerra appealed to these legislators to reconsider their plan to abolish the youth council. "The SK is a unique feature of Philippine democracy. It is the most concrete expression of the constitutional mandate that encourages civic engagement among young people. By providing this venue for young people to participate in governance, we are investing in the next generation of effective local and national leaders." With the passage of the new SK Reform Law early this year, the NYC emphasized the important role of the SK in bringing government youth programs to the grassroots level. "The new SK is designed to be an effective and efficient governance mechanism specially for social development and on the war on drugs. With the SK, the state is telling young people that 'you are not mere beneficiaries, you are our partners'. To abolish it is tantamount to depriving the youth of their voice in local governance." The NYC Chairperson urged legislators and the public to have faith in the Filipino youth, "the SK is the embodiment of our faith in the capacity of the youth to contribute meaningfully in transforming their communities and in the process cultivating their leadership skills. Let us not deprive them of that."
ALLEGED CORRUPTION IN SK.
