Nanindigan si Senator Grace Poe sa kanyang pagboto na tanggalin si Senator Leila de Lima bilang chairperson ng Senate committee on justice.
Ito raw ay upang tuldukan ang espekulasyong may bahid ng “bias” ang kasalukuyang Senate investigation hinggil sa extrajudicial killings sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Ayon kay Senator Poe, naging balakid ang pagkuwestiyon sa pagiging bias diumano ni Senator De Lima
“I believe that the case should be heard without the suspicion of bias against the chair or any of the committee members for that matter.
“Otherwise, the committee and the public get distracted with possible grandstanding, polar bickering and partylines.”
Base ito sa palitan ng mensahe sa pagitan ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at ng senadora ngayong Martes ng hapon, Setyembre 20.
Iginiit din ni Senator Poe na mas mahalagang tutukan ang mga ebidensiya at testimonya ng mga “resource people” kaysa mga kontrobersiyang kinasasangkutan ng ilan sa mga senador na dumidinig ng mga kaso ng extrajudicial killings.
Paliwanag ng senadora, “We need a crusader to gain the public's trust. Someone, hopefully an untainted resource person, can emerge as that crusader.
“If that person is presented in the committee with a less controversial chair, then the focus can be on that resource person.”
Binigyang-diin din ni Senator Poe ang kahalagahan ng patas na imbestigasyon sa Senado.
“If we want the hearings to actually be 'heard' by Duterte supporters and especially the general public, hopefully convince them, we have to show at least a semblance of impartiality.
“Otherwise, our real goal to turn the heads of our people and weigh in on the issue objectively will not be achieved.”
Lunes ng hapon, Setyembre 19, naghain ng mosyon si Senator Manny Pacquiao na tanggalin bilang pinuno ng Senate committee on justice si Senator De Lima.
Ito ay matapos ihayag ni Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, sa kanyang privilege speech, ang diumano’y paninira ni Senator De Lima laban kay Pangulong Duterte at kampanya ng huli laban sa ilegal na droga.
Bukod kina Poe, Cayetano, at Pacquiao, ang iba pang mga senador na bumotong matanggal bilang committee chair si De Lima ay sina Koko Pimentel, Tito Sotto, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Panfilo Lacson, at Cynthia Villar.
Pabor din sina Sherwin Gatchalian, Gregorio Honasan, Sonny Angara, Joel Villanueva, Richard Gordon, Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito, at Loren Legarda.
Ang mga senador na kumontra sa mosyon ni Pacquiao ay sina Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, Kiko Pangilinan, at Bam Aquino.
Si Senator Richard Gordon ang pumalit bilang bagong chairman ng Senate committee on justice.
