In the nine months that they’ve been in a relationship, Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida admitted that they have encountered their fair share of misunderstandings.
Tommy, for his part, said that there have been times when he got jealous of other guys getting too close to Miho.
“I wanna say, 'Of course not, no, I’m very secure with myself.' But come on, I’m human.
“Yes, I get a little jealous. I get a little weird feeling on my stomach. I’m like fist-clenching a little.
“But at the end of the day, I don’t hold anything. I don’t hold any grudges or bad feelings.
“But you can't help that little [weird feeling] in the pit of your stomach that will come up every now and then.
“Yeah, it affects me sometimes.”
NO BIG FIGHTS. But Tommy clarified that he never had a major jealousy issue with Miho since they maintain an open communication.
He explained, “I don’t keep it to myself and let it fester.
“But if it’s happening, how awkward would that be?
“I’ll just say it right away. ‘I feel very awkward with you and this and this.’
“Or I’ll tell myself], 'Think about it, calm down. Maybe I'm being a little too much... It’s not my place. Just breathe a bit.'
“If it still affects me later, I’ll bring it up...”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment reporters were able to interview Tommy and Miho at the presscon for their appearance in Ipaglaban Mo’s October 1 episode.
The presscon was held at 9501 restaurant in ABS-CBN’s ELJ Building, Wednesday, September 28.
LANGUAGE BARRIER. During the program proper, both agreed that the toughest part of being a couple is their problem with language barrier.
Miho is a Filipino-Japanese who grew up in Japan, while Tommy is a Filipino-American who was born and raised in California.
Tommy noted, “It’s been a year since we met in Pinoy Big Brother 737.
“There’s no way you guys are not gonna [have a misunderstanding].
“Since we have a problem with communication, our language, we find that it’s more important that in our relationship, we have a clear communication.”
Miho added that she and Tommy are making an effort to learn to speak the language that the other is more comfortable with.
She said, “Kahit meron kaming language barrier, puwede naman mapag-aralan ‘yan.
“So, siyempre ginagawa naman naming unti-unti.
“Nakakaintindi naman kami ng Tagalog and English.
“Ang problema lang po namin, nahihirapan po akong magsalita ng English, siya nahihirapan siya magsalita ng Tagalog.
“So, mas yun siguro yung mas [dapat] pag-aralan namin.”
