Derek Ramsay stresses need for due process in celebrity drug crackdown

Derek Ramsay on ongoing celebrity drug purge: "I think, it's very unfair that a lot of these celebrities are being tagged as drug users when there's no concrete proof. So dapat, due process and not go out there and name people without being one hundred percent sure."

Ayon kay Derek, "I’m anti-drugs. I’ve always been an anti-drugs, you know that.

"My mom is a drug tester.

"So I’m against drugs. So for me, dapat wala kayong pinipili—whether artista ka or normal kang tao or mayaman kang businessman.

"Kung gumagamit ka ng drugs or nagtutulak ka ng drugs, dapat you should be stopped, at yung user, ibang ano naman ‘yan.

"Dapat these people should be given a chance to go to rehab and change.

"Pangit din naman kung dating adik 'tapos na-realize nila ang pagkakamali nila sa buhay, and they turned their life around which is very difficult, kaya nga it’s an addiction.

"It’s so hard to turn that around and you’re gonna even dig that up and expose to the public na addict 'to or dating addict.

"Baka magka-relapse ulit yung tao, so kawawa naman. They should be very careful."

"With the war against drugs, I’m for it, but again, there should be due process."

NOT IN FAVOR OF PUBLIC SHAMING.

Saad niya, "We as celebrities, it doesn’t make us better than anybody else, di ba?

"We’re still the same with anybody.

"If you’re involved with illegal substances, and you don’t want to stop, yeah, you should be put out there.

"I’m not going against my fellow celebrities, but we're not gods here.

"We’re not better than everybody else. We’re celebrities and that’s our line of work.

"That doesn’t make us, you know, president of the Philippines or untouchable."

NEED FOR DUE PROCESS.

Sabi niya, "No, I don’t think that’s true.

"I don’t think that most celebrities are on drugs.

"Siguro ginagawa lang yun to cause some ingay kasi mga celebrities, kilala.

"Ang daming tao na, siyempre, makikinig at maiintriga kung artista ang gumagamit.

"But I think, it’s very unfair that a lot of these celebrities are being tagged as drug users when there’s no concrete proof.

"So dapat, due process and not go out there and name people without being one hundred percent sure."

Sa pagpapatuloy ng aktor, "For me, dapat bago maglabas, sigurado.

"Kasi, masisira mo ang buhay ng tao. If it’s just hearsay, I don’t think you should.

"But if you’re one hundred percent sure, and this person was given the chance to stop what they’re doing and yet patuloy pa rin, I think you should expose them to the public because, you know, as a celebrity, niloloko mo ang mga taong naniniwala sa 'yo.

"For me pa nga, we have more responsibility, especially to the youth who look up to us.

"Dapat siguraduhin kung gumagamit o tumutulak."

USER VS PUSHER.

"Kasi there could be many reasons kung bakit gumagamit ng droga ang tao.

"We’re not all as strong, we’re not all as lucky to have a strong family that's together.

"A lot of kids out there have broken families.

"Kaya sila napupunta sa droga dahil sa hirap ng buhay.

"We cannot judge these people just because they are hooked in illegal substances."

"VOICE IT OUT" BUT...Kabi-kabila ang pagpapahayag ng opinyon.

Ayon kay Derek, "Well, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I’m all for that.

"Tama lang naman yun. Kung doon ka naniniwala, voice it out.

"Basta you voice it out in a proper manner.

"You don’t say it in such a vulgar or insulting way. Puwede mo namang ilabas ang opinyon mo in a respected manner.

"Voicing out your opinion, I’m all for that."
