Bituin Escalante counters the rationalization that the Marcos burial will enable the country to move on from the burden of the past. She retorts, "We can work toward building a better nation, but when it comes to the past, justice has to be served."

Ayon sa 39-year-old singer, “Personally, I’m not happy.

“It has always been my position that he shouldn’t be buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“Naiiyak ako. I’m upset. This is not justice!

“I was wondering why I was wearing black, umagang-umaga.

“And then I saw the news, and I was, like, ‘Ay, I’m mourning.’

“We have to make a stand!”

Saad niya, “I think to a certain extent, it’s our fault we weren’t vigilant enough.

“We can complain all we want about the Marcos family coming back to power, but what did we do?

“What do our history textbooks say, for instance?

“It’s a fact that a lot of people were abused and killed during martial law, but it was not taught that way.

"It’s just a footnote, an event, a date."

Dagdag pa ni Bituin, “I think the relationship I have with the Marcoses is genuine, but they know my position on this matter.

“It doesn’t mean that we’ll ever be on the same side, at least when it comes to what happened during martial law.

“In the future, we can work toward building a better nation, but when it comes to the past, justice has to be served.”

Nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Bituin sa media launch ng concert niyang The Big Big Show, noong November 8, sa Theatre at Solaire.

SINGING FOR JUSTICE.

“That is how I deal with things, kesa sa magalit ka, ikanta mo na lang, di ba?

“Yes, I am emotional about the situation, a lot of us are.

“But in reality, may magagawa pa ba? Siguro meron, pero parang huli na.

“Nandiyan na ang desisyon, kaya let’s all break into song na lang.

“Let’s just want to make this sad situation a positive one for everybody,” sabi niya.

Sabi ni Bituin, “Everyone will expect us to belt out songs… expected na iyon.

“But may surprise pa rin kaming tatlo, we will be singing songs that people will not expect us to sing.
