Ivan Dorschner is now a Kapuso!
After four years of showbiz hiatus, the former Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010 housemate said that he’s excited to start afresh with his new home network.
“It feels very warm inside,” said the 26-year-old model-actor in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the 17th floor of GMA Network Center this Monday, November 21.
“Napaka-welcoming naman po ng lahat ng nami-meet ko, everyone, pati mga executives.
“I am happy to be here.”
MEETING JAMES IN U.S. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Ivan had been based there for the past four years before he returned to the Philippines last August.
According to Ivan, it was Kapamilya star James Reid who convinced him to make a comeback in Philippine showbiz.
The two had the chance to meet up when James was in the U.S. last May for a concert tour with reel and real-life sweetheart Nadine Lustre.
Ivan recalled, “It was 6 P.M. na when I got the call from a friend that James would be arriving at Glendale Airport at 8 P.M.
“E, matagal papunta airport. So, I went straight all the way from work.
“Buti na lang may dala akong shirt. Kung hindi, uniform ko pa ang suot ko.
“Ayun, so ako ang pinakauna niyang nakitang mukha sa America.
“Paglabas niya ng Customs sa Immigration... di ba, may ramp naman dun kasi…
“Siguro pang-twenty na ako [na tao dun], pero I was the first one he recognized.”
SHOWBIZ COMEBACK. Ivan said that meeting his fellow ex-PBB housemate in U.S. was “phenomenal,” especially since they’ve remained good friends over the years.
“Kinausap niya ako. Sabi niya, ‘Man, you gotta try it again. You gotta do it.'
“Sabi ko naman sa sarili ko, ‘Alright, sige!’ Parang nababagalan na rin ako sa States.
“Because I was also auditioning for shows. Marami na rin ako na-audition-an.”
Ivan added that he got as far as bagging a role for a TV series with CBS, but the project was “canned.”
“I was also studying. I took a few workshops sa Hollywood.
“Ayun, siyempre kailangan ko na rin kumuha ng day job para hindi naman puro pabigat sa pamilya namin.”
While he has no complaints about his life in the States, Ivan felt like it was time to to try his luck in Philippine showbiz again.
Speaking about his comeback, Ivan said, “Umikot ako sa mga kakila kong producers and directors.
“Nag-meeting din ako sa ABS-CBN, sa Viva Entertainment, sa Regal Entertainment—lahat.
“May mga offers naman, pero ang GMA ang may pinakamagandang offer.
“So, it feels good to be here.”
LIFE LESSONS. At 26, Ivan said he feels grateful because his experiences in the States taught him to have a sense of discipline and be more appreciative of the opportunities that come his way.
“Iba na rin dinaanan ko sa Hollywood. Marami na rin akong pinagdaanan.
"I had to get a day job. I had to keep my day job.
“Iba na rin yung takbo ng ibang profession na kailangan pumasok. Kailangan magtrabaho.
“Kailangan magbayad ka ng bills. Kailangan on time ka sa iba mong ginagawa.”
He added that he has really grown up a lot since the first time he joined showbiz via PBB six years ago.
A third child among a brood of four, Ivan said that his responsibility to his family is one of his priorities right now.
“Bilang isang anak, bilang isang kapatid, you have to fulfill those roles naman.
“So, siguro yun ang pinakasuwerte ko sa buhay… marami na akong perspective na naranasan.
“And you can’t pay for that. Binibigay lang sa ‘yo, and ine-experience mo lang.”
