Coleen Garcia is still on cloud nine over her engagement to boyfriend Billy Crawford.
The Kapamilya couple have been together for more than two years
Billy popped the question to Coleen at a restaurant in Quezon City last December 21, 2016.
Asked if she had an inkling about Billy’s plan to propose marriage, Coleen said she had no idea that he would do so a day before they flew to Spain for Christmas vacation.
“Napag-uusapan naman namin, pero hindi ko akalain na ganun ka-soon.
“After niya ibinigay, sabi niya nasa kanya na yung singsing for 19 months.
“So, for more than a year, nasa kanya na yung singsing.
“Siguro siya, ang tagal na niyang plinano. Pero I had no idea na may plano siyang ganun.”
Coleen further said that she appreciates Billy’s effort to include her family in hatching his proposal plan.
She recalled, “Naalala ko, one time, sabi niya pupuntahan niya yung dad ko.
“So, I think, yun yung pinag-usapan nila at that time.
“Pero he always talks to my dad. I think he has talked to my dad more than I’ve talked to my dad.
“Kasi, siyempre, yung mga malalalim na conversations between guys, hindi ko naman makakausap yung dad ko nang ganun. They always talked.
“Parang, I think, nasabi niya ilang beses na. Pero nung time before he actually did it, nagpaalam din naman siya.”
Coleen's dad and other family members and friends were present on the night the couple got engaged.
But the two had the chance to personally share the news to Coleen’s mom during their long holiday vacation in Spain, Barcelona, and Paris, France.
Billy and Coleen just arrived back in Manila yesterday, January 11.
“So, yung buong time na nandun kami, na kasama ko ang pamilya ko at nandun din si Billy, mas naging meaningful sa akin.
“Masaya kasi nandun kami. Ang mindset namin, magpapakasal kami, we’re gonna be together for the rest of our lives, and we’re making changes in our lives for that to happen.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Coleen at her solo presscon for her movie Extra Service, held at ABS-CBN’s 9501 restaurant today, January 12.
WEDDING DATE. Asked if they’ve already picked a wedding date, Coleen said that she and Billy have decided to tie the knot on the “first quarter of 2018.”
She explained, “Summer is my favorite season. It’s my favorite time of the year.
“And parang masyadong soon naman kung this summer kasi nangyari lang [yung engagement] end of last year.
“Magkukulang sa planning. So, ang inisip namin, early summer next year.”
Since they have committed to their respective projects this year, Coleen added that she and Billy don’t want to feel “ngarag” while planning their wedding.
“Gaya nitong soap [Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin], tapos may naka-lineup din na movies [for me].
“And for him, he has shows as well.
“So, mas madali siguro magplano kung mabibigyan talaga ng oras.”
Does she have any hesitation about tying the knot just when she’s at the peak of her showbiz career?
The 24-year-old actress replied, “Well, I don’t think life should stop when you get married.
“I don’t think your career should be any different once you get married.
“Kasi we live in a modern world now. Our audience is more intelligent than that.
“Kapag nanonood sila ng movie or teleserye, ang importante nakikita nila yung character, hindi yung tao, hindi yung artista.
“I really wish to get to a point in my career wherein yung character talaga ang nakikita.
“If ever that does happen, you know, hindi na importante kung ano man ang ginagawa ko sa buhay ko, kung ano man ang nanagyayari sa personal life ko.
“Kasi the character is the character. And I will to continue to portray different kinds of characters.”
