Miss Universe 2016: MOA crowd switches from Philippines to Haiti after Top 6

Sina Iris Mittenaere ng France at Raquel Pelissier ng Haiti ang natira sa 86 candidates na naglaban para sa Miss Universe crown. Sa huli, ang kandidata ng France ang itinanghal na bagong Miss Universe, habang si Miss Haiti naman ang naging crowd favorite matapos matanggal si Miss Philippines Maxine Medina sa Top 3.


Nayanig nang husto ang loob ng MOA Arena, dahil sa malakas na hiyawan, nang tinawag si Miss Philippines Maxine Medina na kabilang sa Top 6 ng Miss Universe 2016 kaninang umaga, January 30.

Ngunit nag-iba ang lahat pagkatapos ng Question and Answer portion, kung saan tinanong ang Top 6 candidates ng individual questions.

Ang napuntang tanong kay Maxine ay ito: “What is the most significant change you have seen in the world in the last 10 years?"

Sagot ng kandidata ng Pilipinas: "In the last ten years of being here in the world, is that I saw all the people bringing in one event like this in Miss Universe. It is something big to us that we are one. As one nation, we are all together. Thank you. Maraming salamat po!"

HAITI FOR THE WIN. Nang lumabas ang resulta at ianunsiyo ng host ng 65th Miss Universe na si Steve Harvey ang Top 3, hindi na masyadong nag-ingay ang mga Pinoy na nasa loob ng venue.

Tila alam na nilang hindi makakapasok sa Top 3 si Maxine, kaya halos wala nang sumisigaw ng "Philippines! Philippines!"

Sa halip, dumagundong ang hiyawan para kay Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier.

May mga sumisigaw rin para kay Miss France Iris Mittenaere, ngunit mas lamang ang hiyawan para kay Miss Haiti.

Nagbunga naman ang kanilang hiyawan dahil parehong nakapasok sina Haiti at France sa Top 3, kasama si Andrea Tovar ng Colombia.

Sa huli, ang nanalong Miss Universe 2016 ay ang France, 1st runner-up ang Haiti, at 2nd runner-up ang Colombia.

“This is the best event I’ve ever done.”

Ayon naman kay Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo, “perfect” ang grand coronation ng Miss Universe 2016.

Aniya, “I would say perfect.

"In fact, you heard Paula said this is the perfect event, first time na masayang-masaya siya.

“And everybody keeps on congratulating us for hosting the Miss Universe, ang ganda daw ng hosting natin.”

Samantala, ayon sa main sponsor ng 65th Miss Universe na si dating Ilocos Sur Governor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson ng LCS Group of Companies, sumobra sa budget ang kanilang ginastos pero balewala raw ito sa kanya.

Umabot na raw kasi sa P800 million ang ginastos nila para sa matagumpay na pagdaraos ng pageant.

Saad pa ni Chavit, “We don’t mind na malugi ngayon kasi I considered it as an investment.”

Namataan naman ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang ilang celebrities sa MOA Arena, gaya nina former Miss Universe winners Gloria Diaz at Margie Moran, celebrities Alice Dixson, Annabelle Rama, Tim Yap, at Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
