What kept Gerald Anderson going during his first 42-kilometer marathon? He replied, "Iniisip ko yung journey.

Gerald Anderson admitted he became emotional when he reached the final stretch of the 42-kilometer Los Angeles Marathon last March 19.

“Lalo na noong last 10 kilometers, ang daming dumadaan sa isip ko, like, 'Kaya ko ba 'to?'

“Siyempre, parang maikli lang ang 10 kilometers.

“Pero if you've been running for three hours, four hours, masakit na siya.

“But sinasabi nga nila, running is about your heart and having a strong mind.

“Sobrang totoo po 'yon, na-experience ko first-hand.

"Kailangan talaga may puso ko,” Gerald told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the post-race party prepared for him by Skechers Performance Philippines last Saturday, March 25.

Instead of giving up, Gerald said he recalled all the preparations he did prior to the LA Marathon.

He related, “Iniisip ko yung journey.

Gerald was also motivated to finish his first attempt at full marathon by the support he received before and during the race.

Will he do the 42-K run again?

The celebrity athlete quickly replied, “Oo, definitely, but may iba akong races na sasalihan muna.

“It's something na kailangan mo munang paghandaan.

After his full marathon, Gerald will continue training for his first Ironman 70.3 Cebu later this year.

WORRIED ABOUT JAKE. Days before the LA Marathon, Gerald was worried about his Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin co-star Jake Cuenca, who figured in a minor biking accident.

The Kapamilya actor said he found out about it from their triathlon teammates.

He also said, “Malakas naman si Jake, e.

“Yung nangyari sa kanya, it's just a minor setback for a major comeback.

“Marami pa kaming gagawing races. He'll be back.

“It's just something na kailangan nating ma-experience ng lahat ng tao.”

The 28-year-old actor said mishaps normally happen during training or even a sports event.

“Kasama talaga 'yan, e. Kasama talaga 'yan sa sports.

“Minsan dadaan ka talaga sa sakit. It's part of the game.

“Kailangan lang talaga mag-ingat.

“Kaya mas yung fulfillment kapag nakatapos ka ng isang laban kasi nga alam mong delikado.

"Alam mong pinaghandaan mo, so yung fulfillment mas grabe dahil alam mo yung mga puwedeng mangyari.”
