In a surprising turnaround, Brunei-based businesswoman Kathelyn Dupaya, who only days ago ranted against Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, is in a contrite mode.
In an Instagram post on April 22, Kathelyn related she had a long conversation with Pia’s talent manager, Jonas Gaffud, who heads Aces and Queens.
Kathelyn did not give details of their conversation, but it was obvious she was appeased.
She wrote on the caption of her photo with Pia: “i just talk to Jonas the manager of Pia thru Phone after our long conversation we found out each other the cause of trouble is MISUNDERSTANDING between me and PIA and surrounded by us.”
Kathelyn also apologized for accusing Pia of making false stories about her during a trip of the former Miss Universe in Brunei.
Pia was in Brunei with her boyfriend Marlon Stockinger last February 2017 on the invitation of Kathelyn.
A “misunderstanding” apparently arose on Kathelyn’s expectation that Pia would grace the soft opening of her spa in Brunei.
Kathelyn in her apology wrote, “All the damages was done..... i am so sorry po kung ano nasabi ko kasi sobra ako nasaktan and i believe nasaktan din si Pia.
“both of us ay nasaktan kaya both of us say sorry for everything at tao lang po tayo lahat para di magkamali
“minsan pag galit di na natin alam nasasabi kaya sorry sa mga nasabi ko below the belt...”
She emphasized that everything has been cleared up between her and Pia's manager.
“Jonas the manager of Pia and i are ok and we end our conversation happy and both of us say Sorry for everything,” Kathelyn said on her post.
Kathelyn Dupaya's life story was featured in the weekly drama anthology Magpakailanman, starring Sheryl Cruz, in 2015.
She was the Pinay who won millions of pesos in lucky draws abroad.
GAFFUD'S STATEMENT. Meanwhile, here are excerpts from the statement of Jonas on Facebook informing his friends and followers on how he and Kathelyn have sorted out the issue:
“I thank Kathy for clarifying the issues she raised against Pia, and for apologizing for what she has done.”
“Clearly, what happened was misunderstanding as she never heard Pia talk bad about anything.
“Pia is thankful for the hospitality that Kathy provided during her private vacation in Brunei.”
Jonas said it was Kathelyn who reached out to him to clear up the issue.
He said, “As her manager, I was prepared to answer Kathy's claims, but she reached out to clarify her issues.
“Communication is really important to settle conflicts and prevent misunderstanding.”
“We learn from mistakes, however, and I hope what happened will serve as a lesson for artists, talents, managers and producers to formalize arrangements in order to avoid confusion and any problem.”
At the end of his statement, Jonas gave an update about Pia, who will be hosting the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 coronation night on April 30.
