Judy Ann Santos confirmed that she has parted ways with long-time manager Alfie Lorenzo.
In fact, he has not been her manager since August 2016.
The 38-year-old actress said she reached out to Alfie, in person, to explain her decision to be independent after 28 years of having him as her talent manager.
Judy Ann told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “We talked August last year. Pumunta ako sa bahay niya.
“It was a very proper conversation. Nagpaalam ako nang maayos kasi malaki ang utang na loob ko kay Tito Alfie.
“At yung utang na loob na yun, hindi yun mapapalitan ng kahit na anong halaga. Alam naman natin ‘yan.
“Alam niyo rin naman kung ano yung relationship ko kay Tito Alfie.
“It’s not a professional thing, it’s a personal decision that I had to make.
“Because Tito Alfie is not just a professional manager, he’s family.”
Asked how the veteran talent manager/entertainment columnist took the news, Judy Ann refused to give details.
Keeping their conversation to herself, she did clarify that her long-time manager, known for being volatile and loud when mad, did not react violently.
“It’s time to move on.”
PEP caught up with Judy Ann after the presscon proper of Bet On Your Baby Season 3, her comeback project at ABS-CBN after a near two year break from showbiz.
The presscon was held at ABS-CBN’s Dolphy Theater today, April 26.
NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM. As early as January 18, Judy Ann had hinted at having a new management team on Instagram.
Talking about her new management team, Judy Ann elaborated, "Meaning, it’s just me. I decide for myself.
“My focus now, really, is my family.
"Whatever I do now, whatever project I accept, it’s my family I consider first.
“I think it’s about time na I have to decide for myself.”
Judy Ann also said that she gets help from trusted confidantes, who are also top executives in ABS-CBN: Cory Vidanes (chief operating officer), Lauren Dyogi (TV production entertainment head), and Biboy Arboleda (Dreamscape AdProm head/talent manager).
The Bet On Your Baby host explained, “It’s not just one person. It’s a team that consists of Mary Jane Buencamino [her right-hand person].
“Nagko-confide ako kay Mother Biboy. Nakikipag-usap ako kay Tita Cory, kay Tatay Lauren.
“It’s a group. It’s not just one.
“Huwag nating pag-usapan yung dalaga pa ako. Iba yung sitwasyon ngayon.
“It works better for me na it’s like this.”
PEP also asked how she feels about having the upper hand with regard to making career decisions.
Judy Ann answered, “Iba rin naman, kasi malaking responsibility siya. Marami kang kailangan i-take in consideration.
“But it’s a power that you have to know how to handle properly.
“If not, puwede ka malunod sa isang basong tubig ng power, e.
“Ayoko siyang gawin mag-isa. So, it’s a team.”
