"We are older and wiser now, we have gone our own ways, we are no longer the same... I love her still, but perhaps because she got away, I have her as a friend now, and so I will always have her," wrote Aga Muhlach to Lea Salonga in a "love letter" published on her 2013 book Lea Salonga Playlist: A Celebration of 35 years.

It took 21 years before Aga Muhlach confessed his past feelings for former leading lady Lea Salonga.

This was in relation to Lea’s 2013 self-titled book Lea Salonga Playlist: A Celebration of 35 years, which contained a “love letter” dedicated to her by Aga.

The first line read, “Lea was the one that got away. And she never knew.”

Then the country's original heartthrob listed all the qualities he admires about Lea—her incomparable singing voice, strong work ethics, and straightforward nature.

Aga also opened up about how he met Lea during the lowest point of his life.

He fondly recalled, “It was 1992 and I was at the very bottom of the industry.

“Walang-wala ako noon. Wala akong pera, wala akong career, but with Labis Kitang Mahal, I made my comeback.

“It was the right movie with with the right girl at the right time.

"Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal resurrected my career.”

Aga credited Lea for the box-office success and the awards that he earned following that project.

He added, “Dahil sa kanya, umangat ako.”

A self-confessed ladies’ man, Aga made references to Lea’s characters in the movie Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal and Sana Maulit Muli to explain why he failed to confess his feelings for her two decades ago.

Sana Maulit Muli was shown in 1995.

Looking back, Aga continued, “She never knew how much I loved her.

“It was a lifetime ago, I was a young man on fire with passion, as all young men of a certain age are. I wooed fair ladies, and dreamed of shaping the world.

“And, to me, Lea was Sandy - ethereal, aloof, unattainable; my heart's very desire.

“Lea was Agnes - vulnerable yet remote, kind yet callous, constantly engaged in a battle of wills.

“And I loved Agnes and Sandy and Lea in equal measure.”

TRUE FRIEND. Now happily married to their respective spouses, Aga said that he’s eternally grateful to have gained a true friend in Lea.

"So now she knows. We are older and wiser now, we have gone our own ways, we are no longer the same.

“But the fire has not ebbed. Rather it has grown deeper, stronger, quieter, more enduring.

“I love her still, but perhaps because she got away, I have her as a friend now, and so I will always have her."

KILIG THEME SONG. Aside from Aga’s “love letter” to Lea, the video of his special appearance during Lea’s 2014 concert was also reposted on Facebook by their fans.

In the video, Aga came up onstage just as Lea was about to sing "Sana Maulit Muli," the theme of their second movie of the same title.

The concert entitled Playlist The Repeat was held at the PICC Plenary Hall in CCP Complex, Pasay City, back in January 2014.

It was the same time Aga mentioned that ABS-CBN's film outfit Star Cinema is brewing a possible movie for him and Lea.

To date, Aga, 47, and Lea, 46, remain vocal that they're open to doing a reunion movie in the future.
