Filipina model and celebrity Georgina Wilson drew flak following her outfit-of-the-day (OOTD) photos on her Instagram account.
The posts show Georgina sporting a souvenir communist-style cap while visiting various tourist destinations in China.
In one photo, she is seen wearing matching caps with younger sister Jessica Wilson and fellow model and cousin Martine Cajucom, with the majestic Tiananmen monument as backdrop.
Some netizens called her out for being “insensitive” and “ignorant” for wearing a communist cap at the historic spot, where hundreds of civilians fighting for democracy were killed during the Communist Party’s rule in China in 1989.
The said tragic event came to be known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
It all started with her Instagram post with a caption that read: “Please forgive the inappropriate merch that we acquired from a vendor at Tiananmen Square.”
Georgina has since deleted the said controversial Instagram snap.
However, a screenshot of it was published in Philippine Daily Inquirer's online counterpart, as seen below:
Georgina also retained her other Instagram posts where she is seen wearing the same cap in question.
Below are some of the criticisms thrown against the celebrity model:
Inappropriate, ignorant, & proud ???? On a scale of 1-"IT GIRLS" how culturally insensitive are you? pic.twitter.com/5aZy0T9oAl— zia c-137 ? (@natsgrimares) July 24, 2017
Meanwhile, other netizens came to Georgina’s defense, pointing out that there's nothing wrong with wearing a merchandise that is actually being sold in the area.
At this writing, Georgina has not yet responded to her critics, but the latest photo she uploaded came with a caption that shows peace sign emojis.
