Mocha Uson and Mariel de Leon wrangled online, being on opposite sides of the government's crackdown on illegal drugs.
Mocha is the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) assistant secretary, while Mariel is Bb. Pilipinas-International 2017 titleholder.
Mariel was the first to draw fire when, on August 18, she reposted on Twitter an ABS-CBN News Online article titled "Bloodiest week yet: At least 80 dead in Duterte's war on drugs."
An excerpt from the article partly read: “Duterte indicated this week that the escalation had his blessing, saying it was good that 32 criminals had been killed in a province north of Manila and adding: 'Let's kill another 32 every day. Maybe we can reduce what ails this country.'”
The beauty queen then remarked:

She went on:
It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that people are okay with murder because their leader says it is okay.— Mariel de Leon (@mariaangelicadl) August 18, 2017

On August 19, Mocha reacted and scolded Mariel for using the word "murder" in describing the killing of "criminals" by the authorities.
A stalwart supporter of President Duterte, she wrote: "Ate wag puro ganda ginagamit mo.
"Iba ang MURDER at iba ang pagpatay sa mga kriminal.
"HINDI INUTOS NG AMING PANGULO ANG PATAYIN ANG INOSENTE.
"Kung meron mga tiwaling pulis hindi ito kasalanan ng Pangulo at ito ay kanyang paparusahan. Don't confuse MURDER WITH KILLING THE CRIMINALS."
Mariel’s response was immediate and sarcastic:
Didn't mention anything specific, but hey! If you're affected, I guess the shoe fits perfectly! ????#SashayAway— Mariel de Leon (@mariaangelicadl) August 19, 2017
