Former Binibining Pilipinas 2016 candidate Sarah Bona made pageant history when she became the first beauty queen to carry the Miss Nature Intercontinental title.
More than 20 aspiring beauty queens participated in the environment-driven beauty competition, which took place last September 4 to 9 in Szczecin, Poland.
Over the course of four days, the beautiful candidates vying for the crown talked diligently about “environmental issues that exist in their countries.”
During the grand coronation night’s Q&A portion, each candidate was asked about an environmental issue.
As seen in a YouTube video posted by pageant blog Powerhouse PH, Sarah was asked to talk about the state of rainforests around the world.
She acknowledged that “the biggest problem is us.”
Sarah related, “Rainforests are the most important part of ecology, so what is happening in the rainforest world right now is that we are losing many plants, animals, and even microorganisms and that is due to deforestation…
“Taking good care of our environment is so obvious… in our environment, the biggest problem is us.
“Yes, we may be the biggest threat, but the solution is we can be its savior through raising awareness through information dissemination, education, and sharing idea through social media.
“Through those collective efforts, we can change the world.”
Sarah nabbed the crown with this answer.
Aside from winning the Miss Nature Intercontinental pageant, Sarah also participated in the Miss ASEAN Friendship pageant in Vietnam, where she finished in the Top 5.
