Ruffa Gutierrez revealed that she reached out to John Lloyd Cruz, following the latest controversy besetting the Kapamilya actor.
“Maliit lang naman ang industriya at may pinagsamahan naman kami,” Ruffa explained during her contract signing with the ALV Talent Circuit, Friday, September 15, at Annabel’s Restaurant, Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
She continued, “I messaged him and I said, ‘I’m offering you my prayers.
"Hope whatever it is you’re going through, malampasan mo ‘yan.’"
John Lloyd replied and thanked Ruffa, who was once romantically linked to him.
Ruffa revealed, “And he sent the message back and he said, ‘I really appreciate you checking up on me.’”
She gave no further details about their communication.
“Siyempre sa amin na lang yung conversation namin!” she exclaimed.
Ruffa, 43, had revealed in a past interview that she and John Lloyd, 34, became a couple in 2009 and parted ways a year after.
FRIENDLY, BUT CIVIL. John Lloyd became the center of attention this weekend when videos of him went viral on social media.
They showed a seemingly drunk John Lloyd dancing, singing, and flashing a dirty finger at one point.
The videos were taken during John Lloyd's four-day vacation in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu.
He was with Ellen Adarna, his co-star in the ABS-CBN weekend sitcom Home Sweetie Home.
They were with her non-showbiz friends, one of them took the videos, and then posted them online.
Stories We Are Tracking
What was Ruffa’s reaction when she saw John Lloyd's videos?
“Na-shock at naawa,” she replied.
Despite their past, Ruffa and John Lloyd have remained friends.
“We’re not the best of friends, we don’t hang out, but we have a civil relationship.
"I can say we’re friends, maliit lang naman ang industriya.
"Whatever thing we’ve been through in the past, naayos na yun, matagal na,” she related.
HIS THING. Ruffa said she does not want to give advice to John Lloyd.
She explained, “Well, first of all, matanda na siya.
"He knows what he’s doing, if he approves of that, then it’s his thing.
“But me, personally, I’m always very particular about who I’m with.
"I wanna surround myself with good people, with positive people.
"And people who will protect me, and not people that will put me in bad light.
“And, especially, it takes you so long and so hard to build a career to build a life.
"And in one instant, masisira lang."
She added, jibing, “Personally, if someone did that to me, naku, patay na siya! As in, patay!”
CAUTIONARY ADVICE. She went on to caution celebrities who want to have a good time.
Ruffa said, “Basically, if you, guys, wanna have a good time... itago niyo ang mga cell phones niyo.
“Back in the day kasi, pag lumalabas ako, di pa uso yung cell phones.
"I’m so thankful I was able to have a great happy life na walang nakakaalam.
“In the first place, hindi naman ganun ang trip ko.
“I’m happy that I was able to have a great teenage life.
"Walang social media, walang cameras, walang phones pa back then.
“Now, kailangan talaga doble ingat.”
