Bettina Carlos says her sudden exit from Idol sa Kusina happened at the right time because she gets to be with her daughter more often. "I'm so grateful na it happened at this time na I know it's not yet too late."

“I cried buckets but I knew that it was going to happen.”

This was Bettina Carlos's answer when asked why she was suddenly replaced by her friend Chynna Ortaleza in GMA News TV's weekly cooking show, Idol sa Kusina.

Bettina had been the co-host of Chef Pablo “Boy” Logro in the show ever since it first aired in 2011.

However, she was replaced by Chynna last July 2017.

Bettina refused to give details about this change in the show.

She told (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “It's very technical.

"There's one contract that I did not renew, which affected another contract that is tied up with the show.

“So, with respect to technicalities and management decision, I had to forego the show.”

Instead of being sad about losing a TV show, the celebrity single mom took it positively.

“Right now, I'm just busy being a mother.

“I'm really a full-time mother and also a full-time home-based baker.

“Talagang kapag nanay ka, sa anak lang talaga,” the 29-year-old TV host-actress said with a big smile. and other reporters interviewed Bettina after she and her six-year-old daughter Amanda Lucia were introduced as endorsers of PLDT Home Fibr in an event held recently.

MORE TIME WITH GUMMY. According to Bettina, what happened in her showbiz career recently strengthened her faith in God.

“I felt how God is really faithful, na when He takes away something, He makes sure to replace it.

"He replaces it with so much more, you just have to trust Him.

“My faith naman never wavered, kasi I'm a single mom and I know that the Lord is my partner in providing for my child.

“Yun naman ang number one concern naman ng mga nanay, lalo na kung solo parent—how to provide for your child.

“But the Lord has never failed to deliver,” she said.

The work break was also a welcome thing because she now gets to spend more time with her daughter, whom she fondly calls Gummy.

Bettina said, “Yung time, that's [the] undeniable benefit of it because hawak ko ang schedule ko—I can say yes, I can say no.

"I can say when, I can plan trips, I can plan [a] short getaway with my daughter.

"I can do whatever I want with my time with her.

“Ngayon ko nare-realize na, 'Shucks, seven na siya next year. What happened, anak? Nagtrabaho lang ako, ano na nangyari?'

“Sometimes, mayroon akong feelings na parang ang laki na ng anak ko.

“But I'm so grateful na it happened at this time, na I know it's not yet too late.

“Kasi, kahit na lumalaki na siya, bata pa siya.

"I know that I can spend time with her and I can really spend the time when she still wants me to be her friend.

“Sabi ko nga sa kanya, 'You know, anak, there will come a time na you wouldn't want to be with me anymore. You'd want to be with your friends na lang.'

“Sabi niya, 'No, Mommy, I just want to be with you.'”

NO MORE SHOWBIZ? Bettina is more preoccupied with baking and cooking now, and she seems to enjoy it.

“Every day, full time na siya, wala nang humpay ito,” she said.

However, she clarified that this does not mean she's closing her doors to showbiz opportunities.

“Siyempre, it's undeniable that when you work on TV, you earn so much more compared to your physical labor or anuman ang day job mo.

“We really earn so much more.

“So, when I lost my last TV stint, which is Idol, I realized how hard really it is to work.”

This new experience made Bettina appreciate people who do a nine-to-five job.

“Mas na-value ko yung mga taong nagtatrabaho araw-araw, limang beses isang linggo, na eight hours.

“Feeling ko nga, manggagawang Pilipino na rin ako talaga, because I look forward to Saturdays and Sundays, na it's really time to just rest and spend time with family and recovery, to re-align yourself.

“Mas na-appreciate ko how hard it is really to fend for your family, to provide for your family, because things were easier before.

“But I will not complain because I'm learning to appreciate the different seasons of life.”

If given a chance, Bettina would want to do another hosting job.

She said, “I really want to host. That's one thing I know, modesty aside, that I am good at.

“I wanna see myself hosting more and cooking on TV.

“In as much as I want to act, no matter how bad I really miss it, I miss playing roles, playing roles I cannot be in real life, like playing maldita, nakaka-miss siya.

“Pero when I think about the hours, that's really what's unbearable for me because I have a child.

“She needs me more. No amount of money can compensate the time lost for her, kahit gaano pa kalaki ang i-offer nila.”

In conclusion, however, Bettina said in jest, “Except lang siguro kung si Piolo [Pascual], papayag ako!”
