It's heartbreaking to fans when celebrity couples they've admired for their relationship goals part ways.
As 2017 draws to a close, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) rounds up the long-term relationships and unconfirmed romances that ended up in splitsville.
Check out the list below:
1. ERICH GONZALES & DANIEL MATSUNAGA. It was on February 9 when Erich confirmed that she and Daniel had broken up after almost two years of being in a relationship.
The 27-year-old Kapamilya actress categorically denied that a third party caused the split.
But their breakup was also muddled by money issue, which prompted a word war between Erich and Daniel’s camp.
In her interview with PEP.ph and other reporters, Erich had said, “Tungkol sa pera, ayoko nang magdetalye tungkol diyan because, just like what I’ve said, I just want to move on.”
In another PEP.ph report, Daniel insisted that his breakup with Erich “was never about money.”
With some netizens accusing Daniel of being a “user,” his sister Vanessa Matsunaga stepped into the fray, saying his brother “never took advantage of Erich because there’s really nothing to take advantage of.”
Erich fired back with a stinging message to Vanessa that aired on TV Patrol's showbiz report on February 13.
She said, “Hindi ako mayaman, Vanessa. Tama ka, mahirap lang ako, hindi ako kasing-yaman ng napangasawa mo.
“Pero sa mundong ito, ang realidad, hindi lang mayayaman ang nate-take advantage. Mas maraming mahirap ang napapagsamantalahan.”
A furious Erich then threatened to tell all that went wrong in her relationship with Daniel.
It never happened with the intervention of Star Magic, which is managing the career of the actress.
The talent arm of ABS-CBN had arranged a meeting between the quarreling ex-lovers.
On February 16, Star Magic issued a statement that Erich and Daniel had put an end to the money issue and third-party rumor surrounding their breakup.
2. ELLEN ADARNA & SEBASTIAN “BASTE” DUTERTE. On January 29, Ellen confirmed that she and Baste were a couple for “seven or eight months,” but had since called it quits.
Speaking to PEP.ph, the Kapamilya sexy star admitted that it was the presidential son who broke up with her via a text message.
She related, "Instead of parang girlfriend na 'Good morning,' ganyan-ganyan.
"Ang text niya, 'Ano kaya kung maghiwalay tayo?'
"Question mark. Siya ang nagsabi.
"And then, ayun, hindi na kami nag-usap."
On February 28, Baste opened up about his overlapping relationships with non-showbiz girlfriend Kate Necesario and Ellen.
Kate is Baste's long-time girlfriend with whom he has a two-year-old son.
In his interview with TV5’s Reaksyon, Baste had said, "Alam nilang dalawa and pumayag naman sila. Anong magagawa ko?"
Back in November 2016, Ellen and Baste made headlines when their kissing photo in Japan made the rounds online.
But at the time, they were still mum about the real score between them.
3. GRETCHEN HO & ROBI DOMINGO. After four years of being labelled as a couple that set the bar high on #relationshipgoals, Gretchen and Robi broke up.
In the March 1 episode of Tonight With Boy Abunda, the ex-couple released a joint statement that they want to focus on their respective careers and grow as individuals.
They also stated that “there is no third party” involved in their split.
During the March 2 press launch of ABS-CBN’s I Can Do That, Robi also denied rumors linking him to Sandara Park, whom he had worked with in the 2016 Kapamilya reality show Pinoy Boy Band Superstar.
Speaking to entertainment reporters, Robi said, “And kung anuman ang ano niyo, it's not true.
"Let's give the respect that she deserves 'cause she has given honor sa atin, kahit nasa ibang bansa siya…
“And, at the same time, ibigay natin ang same respect kay Gretchen 'cause she's one great person."
In July, it almost seemed Robi and Gretchen were back on good terms when they were seen co-hosting an event and bantering about their past breakup on stage.
But in an October 13 interview with PEP.ph, Robi had said it would be hard for him and Gretchen to rekindle their friendship.
“Kasi may feelings pa rin na nasasaktan. I think it will take lots of time for us to heal para kami makapag-usap,” he explained.
4. ARCI MUÑOZ & BADI DEL ROSARIO. Arci admitted that her relationship with boyfriend of three years Badi del Rosario ended in the latter part of 2016.
But she only opened up about it during the January 6 digital conference for the Star Cinema movie Extra Service.
She revealed, “Since Christmas, before the holidays... naging malabo na siya before that pa.
“We tried to fix it, but hanggang sa ayun."
According to Arci, her busy work schedule could have caused the strain in their relationship.
But her earlier Facebook posts stirred speculations that a third party possibly caused their breakup.
Arci’s quote card read: “WOMEN KNOW...THEY JUST KNOW. EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T KNOW, THEY WOULD KNOW. MEN MIGHT NOT GET THIS, BUT WOMEN WILL...BECAUSE THEY KNOW.”
She also posted a separate quote card that read: "I am a patient person and I give a lot of chances. But when I'm done, I'm done."
Despite her cryptic posts, Arci claimed that she and Badi parted as “friends.”
Badi is the son of Brunei Prince Jefri Bolkiah and a lead vocalist of the Pinoy rock band, Mr. Bones and The Boneyard Circus.
5. BELA PADILLA & NEIL ARCE. Bela confirmed her split with boyfriend Neil during the January 19 press launch of ABS-CBN’s primetime series My Dear Heart.
Three weeks earlier, the two even posted on Instagram sweet messages to each other during their hiking trip to Mt. Maculot in Batangas.
Based on their posts, Bela and Neil were also looking forward to their collaborative projects in the years ahead.
But according to the 26-year-old actress, their breakup was long-time coming.
In her February 4 interview with PEP.ph, Bela had said, "Wala namang reason.
"Siguro napunta lang kami sa ibang direksiyon.
"Yung way of thinking din siguro, baka different na.
"Hindi kasi kami nag-aaway, hindi kami confrontational."
She added that her relationship with Neil came to a point when she no longer saw him as a boyfriend, but more of a good friend.
6. PAOLO BALLESTEROS & ROLAND OCHOA ANOG. Word got out about Paolo Ballesteros’s rumored romance with G-Force dancer Roland Ochoa Anog when the Kapuso TV host-actor posted a photo of their matching gold rings via Instagram.
While Paolo only showed a cropped photo of a couple holding hands, netizens guessed that his mystery partner was Roland.
Apparently, their respective solo photos showed them both wearing matching rings.
The two were also seen sporting identical tattoos “II.XIV.XVII”—or February 14, 2017—alluding to the day they became a couple.
It was on May 7 when Paolo first showed a photo of himself and Roland driving around the metro.
Then, on May 17, Paolo posted on Instagram several photos of their vacation in Suguicay Island in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.
But by the end of May, there were talks that the rumored couple was going through a rough patch.
While Paolo had kept mum about the status of their relationship, his remark in a live telecast of Eat Bulaga on June 29 were telling.
While interviewing a female “Sugod Bahay” winner about her blooming love life, Paolo commented, “Buti ka pa.”
And when told her relationship had been going on for five months, Paolo remarked, “Buti pa kayo umabot sa five."
Paolo then hinted that his relationship with an unnamed person collapsed after nearly four months.
Another Eat Bulaga! Dabarkads Ruby Rodriguez commented, “Hashtag naudlot.”
7. TOMMY ESGUERRA & MIHO NISHIDA. After one and a half years of being together, Tommy and Miho released a joint statement announcing their breakup in the April 26 episode of Tonight With Boy Abunda.
Tommy later admitted that he initiated the breakup because of personal differences.
On May 11, in an episode of Magandang Buhay, Tommy had said, “It’s been months.
"I feel like it’s been months that we were not happy.
“Unti-unti, I’ve been pulling away from the family.
"Para the day it happens, it's not that sudden change.”
In an earlier interview, Miho had said the “language barrier” was a big hurdle in her relationship with Tommy.
But despite the breakup, she defended Tommy from bashers accusing him of using her to advance his career.
“Parang hindi ko naman po inisip at ayaw ko naman pong isipin na ginamit ako.
“Naramdaman ko rin naman po yung love niya sa akin,” she had said in the May 4 episode of Magandang Buhay.
The two met on ABS-CBN’s reality Pinoy Big Brother 737 in 2015, where Miho came out the Big Winner and Tommy the Second Big Placer.
On December 19, 2016, in a live telecast of It's Showtime, Miho said "yes" to becoming Tommy's girlfriend.
8. CHARICE PEMPENGCO & ALYSSA QUIJANO. Two months before Charice became Jake Zyrus, his breakup with long-time live-in partner Alyssa was reported in publications and online news sites.
Alyssa allegedly had left their apartment, according to Pilipino Star showbiz editor Salve Asis in her column dated April 26 2017.
Alyssa and the former Charice were in a relationship for four years.
Things reportedly changed between them when the singer underwent breast removal surgery in March, started taking testosterone shots in April, and fully became a transman named Jake Zyrus in June.
He officially changed his Twitter and Instagram handle into @jakezyrusmusic and @jakezyrus, respectively.
It was also in June when Jake deleted all of his photos with Alyssa from his social media accounts.
9. SAM MILBY & MARI JASMIN. It was in September when netizens noticed that Sam and his non-showbiz girlfriend had unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The last time Sam posted a photo with Mari was during their vacation in San Francisco, U.S.A., in August.
This spurred speculations that the couple—who had been together for more than a year—had called it quits.
Sam, however, had never issued an official statement addressing his alleged breakup with Mari.
The only clue that Sam was probably nursing a heartbreak was when he joined Angelica Panganiban in headlining the music video of the hit breakup song “Malaya,” performed by singer Moira dela Torre.
Incidentally, the music video was launched weeks after Angelica posted on Instagram a cryptic message alluding to how she had moved on from her breakup with John Lloyd Cruz.
As for Sam, the actor/singer dodged media queries about the status of his relationship with Mari during the presscon for his newest ABS-CBN soap, Love Will Lead You Back, in October.
Back when they were still dating, Mari was the mystery girl who showed up at Sam’s tenth anniversary concert in November 2015.
According to Sam, he made the first move on Mari via Twitter that same year.
10. SAM YG AND JOYCE PRING. Magic 89.9 radio jocks Sam and Joyce had kept their relationship under wraps probably in deference to their individual careers.
Then, for the past two years, they seemed to have grown more comfortable posting on social media pictures of their time together outside work.
But just when their real-life romance and co-hosting gigs seemed to be working out seamlessly, Sam and Joyce broke up in June.
In her blog post dated October 8, she wrote, “Hindi pa rin ako nagbago. Hindi ko pa rin ipipilit ang sarili ko.
"Dahil alam ko naman na ako ang may kasalananan kung bakit ganito tayo ngayon.
“Magkaibigan na lamang, matapos magka-ibigan.
“Hindi rin naman ako aasa. Wala sa dugo ko ang mag-hintay.
"O ang mag-alampay ng pag-ibig sa mga balikat na alam kong umawat na.”
On December 10, Joyce again took to Instagram to say... their breakup is pure "torture."
But she added that she's trying to come to terms with the fact that she can’t avoid him forever.
“Every person in our life brings out a specific facet of who we are.
"And I'm just grateful that Sam brought out some of my best ones.”
11. SEBASTIAN CASTRO & RYAN CHUA. It was Sebastian who first confirmed his breakup with Ryan through a Facebook post dated October 5.
Sebastian’s post partly read: “Ryan and I recently broke up. It was a 4 yr-long relationship, in many respect my only serious one.”
Sebastian added that the reason he and Ryan shared tidbits of their relationship was to show their pride in being part of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community.
He also said, “Even now, that the relationship’s over, we’re happy we did, and we’re choosing to remember the best parts of it.”
Sebastian is said to be a model-turned-actor, while Ryan is a news reporter in ABS-CBN’s primetime news cast TV Patrol.
So, PEPsters, which of the 11 breakup headliners was the hardest to get over with?
