Saying her final farewell to veteran director Maryo J. delos Reyes was hard for Yasmien Kurdi.
She was one of the many celebrities who were seen at the wake of the late director yesterday, January 30.
The actress is the star of the upcoming GMA-7 teleserye Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka, which pilot week was helmed by Direk Maryo.
In an interview aired on Unang Hirit, Yasmien recalled her last shooting days with him.
She said, “Honored ako na na-shoot niya pa yung pilot episodes namin ng Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka.
"Hindi ko alam na yun na pala yung isa sa mga huling obra niya.
"Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘O, Direk, iniwanan mo na kami. Hindi mo na kami love, e.’
"'Tapos sabi niya, ‘Hoy, hindi! Hayaan mo, tututukan ko yung editing.'
“So, I guess kahit iniwan na tayo ni Direk Maryo, nararamdaman ko na hindi niya pa rin kami iiwan.
"Nandun pa rin siya all throughout the show.”
Rocco Nacino, meanwhile, has nothing but gratitude to Direk Maryo.
“Alam mo iyon, nagtiwala sa akin si Direk Maryo at talagang binigyan niya ako ng oras at effort para i-guide,” he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Rocco was directed by Maryo in his first-ever teleserye, Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, in 2010.
Since then, the StarStruck alumnus had looked up to him as a mentor.
Fellow directors Carlos Siguion-Reyna and Joel Lamangan also paid their last respects to their colleague.
Direk Maryo, 65, passed away on January 27 in Dipolog City after a heart attack.
