Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray on former beauty queens Maggie Wilson and Bea Rose Santiago's objection to her winning the Best In Swimsuit award: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, let's not be too overly sensitive."

Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray has kept her cool even after former beauty queens Maggie Wilson and Bea Rose Santiago took a swipe at her winning the Best in Swimsuit competition of Binibining Pilipinas 2018.

Both Maggie and Bea expressed their surprise at the judges’ decision to award Catriona as the Best In Swimsuit among the Top 25 finalists for that category.

The two former beauty queens then appealed to Catriona when they drew backlash from solid supporters of the recently-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2018.

On her Instagram stories today, March 22, Catriona said that she respects Maggie and Bea’s objection about her winning that special award.

While she reminded her fans to refrain from making negative comments about the issue, Catriona also wrote that she has no control over netizens reacting to the issue.

Catriona’s statement read in full:

“Hey my loves I’ve been seeing some comments online regarding the comments of two of our beauty queens and their opinions on the best in swimsuit award in BBP2018.

“Firstly, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, let’s not be too overly sensitive.

“As I’ve said before debating and stating your own opinion is okay but let’s not retaliate with negativity.

“Secondly, to those who are saying that I need to control the fans, pasensya na po, but I cannot control them or tell what to and to not say.

“Finally, let’s just be happy!

“I’m elated and over the moon to be our new Ms. Univese Philippines! We should be celebrating the new queens!

“More love, more positivity.”

In an earlier report published by (Philippine Entertainment Portal), it was mentioned that Maggie stands by her statement that she did not agree with Catriona being awarded Best in Swimsuit during the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 coronation night last Sunday, March 19.

Bea Rose agreed with Maggie and tweeted that the pageant should not be all about having a pretty face.

Maggie won Bb. Pilipinas-World in 2007, while Bea was crowned Miss International in 2013.

Despite their arguments about the Best In Swimsuit category, both Maggie and Bea Rose maintained that they were rooting for Catriona as Miss Universe Philippines 2018 title-holder.

They also credited the reigning beauty queen's over-all performance during the pageant.

Aside from being crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2018, Catriona also won five special awards: Best in Swimsuit, Best in Long Gown, Pitoy Moreno Best in National Costume, Jag Denim Queen, and Miss Ever Bilena.
