Julia Barretto on dealing with personal differences with boyfriend Joshua Garcia: "Because when I feel like it's the right thing to do, that's not the right thing to do for him. So, it's a struggle every day to meet halfway. But there's effort naman on both ends."

Julia Barretto, 21, came right out with her ongoing conflict with boyfriend Joshua Garcia, 20, during the digital conference for their movie I Love You, Hater last Friday, July 13.

“We’re very much nagtatampuhan right now.

"Because we’re human and we’re a normal couple," Julia frankly stated in reference to why they seemed distant and barely even looked at each other.

Joshua, for his part, refused to elaborate on what they were quarreling about even when Julia asked him how they usually fix their “tampuhan.”

Then Julia explained that having misunderstandings is just part of a healthy relationship.

“Oo naman, especially because you love each other.

“So every single thing that they do, it hurts you, it affects you, it bothers you—it’s that passionate.

“So if you didn’t care about each other, he can hurt me and I wouldn’t care.

"But that’s a bad thing if you wouldn’t care."

Julia gave this statement at the digicon that was held at Star Cinema office in ABS-CBN’s ELJ Building in Quezon City.

LITTLE LQS. The Kapamilya actress even described that the way she and Joshua fight is not cutesy as their characters bickering in the movie.

“It’s worse in real life,” Julia admitted with a smile.

“In real life, worse talaga. Kasi yun talaga, may feelings involved, your heart is involved.

“Pag heart ang pinag-uusapan, ay naku! Walang talunan ‘to.”

Joshua, in turn, made a brief comment at this point, "Sa movie kulitan lang... Sa real life, totoo yung sabi ni Julia.”

Julia added, “Mas passionate. Parang walang bukas.”

PERSONAL DIFFERENCES. But she also clarified that both of them make an effort to adjust to each other despite their differences.

Talking about what she discovered about Joshua while filming I Love You, Hater, Julia elaborated:

“I feel like no matter how much you know a person, in your everyday life with that person there’s something you learn more on a different level.

“From the very beginning, alam ko na sensitive person si Josh.

"But then, na-realize ko kung ano yung nagpapa-sensitive kay Josh.

“Specific things that will alarm him, will make him feel attacked or that will bother him.

“You also kind of discover how to deal with the person. Iba, e.”

Did it help her understand Joshua better now?

Julia replied, “What to do and what not to do. And that’s an everyday struggle.

“Because when I feel like it’s the right thing to do, that’s not the right thing to do for him.

“So, it’s a struggle every day to meet halfway. But there's effort naman on both ends.”

KISS AND MAKE UP. True enough, both Joshua and Julia proved that their fights don’t last long.

They were practically inseparable—holding hands and hugging each other—when they appeared at the special block screening for I Love You, Hater.

Organized by their fan group, the JoshLia Squad, the block screening was held at Fisher Mall on Friday evening, July 13.

Greeting the fans and media representatives, Joshua cheerfully exclaimed: “Kasama lang namin kayo kanina nung magkagalit pa kami. Ngayon okey na kami. Ganun lang yun!”

To which, Julia added, smiling, “Sabi sa inyo, hindi tatagal ng 10 minutes.”
