TRIGGER WARNING: ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
Pumanaw na ang Hong Kong-born American singer na si Coco Lee nitong Miyerkules, July 5, 2023. Siya ay 48.
Kinumpirma ng mga kapatid ni Coco na sina Nancy at Carol ang malungkot na balita sa pamamagitan ng social media.
Ayon sa magkapatid, nagtangkang magpakamatay ni Coco noong Linggo, July 2. Pagkalipas ng tatlong araw ay tuluyan nang binawian ng buhay ang singer.
Isiniwalat nina Nancy at Carol na ilang taon nang nakikipaglaban sa depression ai Coco.
Bahagi ng pahayag ng mga kapatid ni Coco: "With great sadness, we are here break the most devastating news: CoCo had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months.
"Although, CoCo sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.
"On 2 July, she committed suicide at home and was sent to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the hospital team to rescue and treat her from her coma, she finally passed away on 5 July, 2023."
Ngayong 2023 ay ipinagdiriwang ni Coco ang ika-30 anibersaryo ng kanyang showbiz career.
Ipinagmamalaki ng mga kapatid ni Coco ang mga nakamit nitong tagumpay sa loob ng nakalipas na 29 taon, partikular na ang pagbubukas nito ng pinto para sa Chinese singers na makilala sa international music scene
Payahag pa nina Nancy at Carol, "As a family of CoCo, we are very grateful and honored to have such an excellent and outstanding sister. We are thankful to God for giving us such a kind angel.
"We know now she has gone to a happier place and no longer suffers from depression; we trust God has her best interest looked after!
"Now, our greatest responsibility is to take good care of our elderly mother. I hope everyone will pray for this poor old lady & allow us time & privacy in healing."
Dagdag pa nila, "Finally, we would like to thank the medical staff again for their dedication to care throughout the whole process.
"At the same time, we hope that everyone will not only miss CoCo, but also share her bright smile, treat people with sincerity, and convey kindness and love to everyone around us, and continue CoCo’s wish to let everyone around feel her love and happiness.
"Although CoCo stays in the world for not long a time, her rays of light will last forever!
Si Coco, na ipinanganak bilang Ferren Lee, ay pumasok sa music scene sa edad na 19 noong 1994 sa pamamagitan ng kanyang debut album na ini-release sa Taiwan. Noong late '90s ay na-penetrate niya ang American music scene.
Dahil sa kanyang malawak na vocal range, na umaabot umano sa three octaves, nakilala siya bilang "Mariah Carey of Asia."
Kabilang sa mga pinasikat niyang kanta ay ang "Before I Fall In Love," na mula sa soundtrack ng Hollywood movie na Runaway Bride (1999); "A Love Before Time," na kasama naman sa soundtrack ng Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000); at ang kanyang sariling version ng "Reflection" na mula sa animated film na Mulan.
Noong 2016 ay nanalo siya sa fourth season ng Chinese reality show na I Am Singer.
