Ang pasyente ay isang 45 anyos na male painter na naputulan ng dalawang braso noong 2020.

Noong October 2020, tumatawid noon sa riles ang lalaki sa Nangloi, New Delhi, sakay ng kanyang bisikleta. Nawalan siya ng kontrol sa manibela at nasagasaan ng tren, kaya’t naputulan ng mga braso at kamay.

Una na siyang gumamit ng prosthetics for trial, pero hindi naging effective.

THE TRANSPLANT

Ang tanging pag-asa ng lalaki ay sa pamamagitan ng bilateral arm transplant.

Siya ang napili ng team ni Dr. Mahesh Mangal, chairman ng Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, at Dr. Swaroop Singh Gambhir, senior consultant for Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery sa Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, ayon sa The Indian Express.

Ang donor ay isang female administrative head sa South Delhi school na idineklarang brain-dead.

Ani Dr. Gambhir: “Once we selected the patient, and did the blood match we got to know he was the fit candidate for the patient.

“We took the hands and we fixed the bones first with plates and screws and we fixed the muscles and then artery and the nerve.”

Sinabi ni Dr. Gambhir na “precision and expertise” ang naging susi para matiyak na pulido ang ginawang transplant.

Inabot ng anim na linggo para maka-recover ang lalaki matapos ang surgery.

February 2023 nang mabigyan ng permiso ang Sir Ganga Ram Hospital bilang ospital sa North India na magsagawa ng kumplikadong hand transplant surgeries.
