Shannen Doherty has passed away at the age of 53.
The news was confirmed to People magazine by her publicist Leslie Sloane: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease."
Many remember Shannen for her portrayal of Brenda Walsh in the hit television drama series, Beverly Hills, 90210, which first aired in 1990.
In 1998, Shannen was seen in the fantasy-drama series Charmed where she played the role of Prudence Halliwell.
SHANNEN A COUNTRY GIRL AT HEART
Shannen was born on April 12, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee.
She started her showbiz career as a child actress, gracing the shows Voyagers and Father Murphy in the early 1980s.
At 11, Shannen landed the role of Jenny Wilde in the historical drama series Little House on the Prairie.
Shannen also made appearances in movies such as the comedy film Girls Just Wanna Have Fun before landing her breakthrough role in 1988's Heathers, a cult classic teen dark comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.
But it was in Beverly Hills, 90210 where Shannen became a household name.
Her rise to fame was also marred by negative publicity due to alleged bad behavior, including constant tardiness and feuds with co-actors, which frequently made headlines in tabloids and gossip columns.
SHANNEN'S CANCER DIAGNOSIS
In March 2015, it was revealed that Shannen was suffering from breast cancer.
The cancer cells reportedly spread, necessitating urgent surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Before her breast cancer diagnosis, Shannen confessed in 1999 that she was dealing with Crohn's disease.
